1
1
' COMMITTEE CHALLENGES AND NEEDS
For several years, the CACs have reported to the Commissioners the need for more volunteers. In
' this report, members wanted to share that without enough members on the CACs•
• Long-term residents are not visited as often as required or as needed to effect improvements.
' • Work that should b
e shared among 18 ACHCAC members must be carried about by 6
' members. The NHCAC, with only 1 member, did not conduct visits at all for the majority of
the year.
' • When CACs visit such a low percentage of the facilities, they are not able to link the needs of
facilities to the community, which was the original intent when CACs were created by the
General Assembly.
t • Committee members express feelings of dissatisfaction and ineffectiveness, knowing that
without more members, even their best efforts are not enough.
' •'• Frustrated volunteers resign.
' The Committees respectfully ask the Commissioners to think about the quality of care and quality of
life that Cabarrus County wants to offer its long-term care residents. Many of these frail and
vulnerable citizens need someone to visit and advocate for them. Facilities report that visits from
' CACs challenge them to see their endeavors from the residents' perspective. The volunteers
appointed to these committees are willing to work, but they can't work effectively without
more members.
COMMITTEE GOALS FOR 2008
1. Continue to advocate for quality of care and quality of life for long-term care residents.
2. Orient newly appointed members.
3. Divide the ACHCAC into sub-committees in order to visit 100% of the county's adult care
homes pending enough new appointments.
4. Rebuild the NHCAC to function independently again, pending enough new appointments.
' S. Attend required Quarterly Training meetings.
6. Plan the 2009 Residents' Rights Celebration.

YOU'RE INVITED...
The CACs extend an open invitation to the Commissioners to learn more about the work these
committees perform and will continue to invite Commissioners on scheduled visits. We would
welcome a liaison to learn first-hand more about the important work we do for the residents in this
County.

C-1
Attachment number 1
