The
methodology used during the October 6, 7, and 8, 2008 site reconnaissance consisted of a walkover of
the perimeter of the subject site and throughout the property interior, followed by a vehicular survey of the
surrounding area. The purpose of the site reconnaissance was to identify recognized environmental
conditions on the subject site and identify sites of similar environmental concern located within % mile.
Ms. Raymer and Mr. Cummings searched for evidence of pastor present activities which could have led
to the deposition of hazardous substances or petroleum products. The locations of specific items
observed during the site reconnaissance are indicated in Appendix A, Drawing 1.
6.2 GENERAL.SCTESETTING
The subject site is located near the intersection of Wallace Rcad and Highway 601 in Midland, Cabarrus
County, North Carolina as indicated in Appendix A, Drawing 1. The general vicinity is predominantly
residential, woodland, and farmland with some commercial properties.
6.3 INTERIOR OBSERVATIONS
-~ There are no strut#ures on the subject site for interior observations to be made.
6.4 EXTERIOR OBSERVATIONS
At the time of the site reconnaissance, the majority of the subject site consisted of pasture and woodland.
An overhead power line easement was observed in the center of the subject site (Appendix C, Photo 3}.
In addition, another power line easement was observed near the eastern border of the subject site.
Aluminum cans and a stuffed chair were observed within the wooded area in the northern portion of the
subject site (Appendix C, Photo 1). A playhouse consisting of a tin roof with tarp walls filled with stuffed
chairs and a compressed gas stave was observed within the wooded area in the northern part of the
subject site. Several shallow pits were observed on parcel number 5544646749. However, only one pit
contained debris in the form of go cart tires, a chair and a tarp (Appendix C, Photo 2}. None of this debris
is considered a recognized environmental condition because it does not appear to be detrimental to the
environmental infegrity of the subject site. '
The southern portion of parcel number 5544724095 has a storage barn (Appendix C, Photo 6) and a
storage yard. The storage barn contained hay and seed. Galvanized con'ugated metal pipe, guard rail
posts (treated with creosote), structural steel, a truck trailer, a truck tank and farm equipment was
observed on the storage yard {Appendix C, Photos 7, 8, 9, and 10}.
Wallace Property Ph 1 ESA
CESI Project No. 080913.000
October 14, 2008
Page 16
Attachment number 1
G_9 Page 508 of 627
