He stated #hat there <br />l' were no environmental cleanups, chemical releases, USTs, or ASTs on the subject site. However, he <br />said that a UST was removed on the southeast portion of the subject site. The UST was located behind <br />l a former farm house. Mr. Wallace said there were no indications of leaks from the UST when it was <br />removed. <br />Mr. Wallace stated that Superior Stone Company leased the subject site from two different property <br />owners beginning in 1946 to run a quarry. He said the quarry was in operation for ten to twelve years <br />and that the quarry was abandoned in the late 1950's. He said there was a powder house associated <br />vyith the quarry, which is no longer present. Mr. Wallace said there is an irrigation pump that went from <br />the former quarry area to the Coming plant. He is not sure if the pump is currently in use. He also <br />informed us that there was an onsite rubble field consisting of s#umps, concrete, brick, etc. placed by him. <br />He assured us there was no hazardous waste in the rubble field. <br />'~1 Mr. Wallace informed us that the various piles of construction equipment, metal, pipes, etc. were being <br />stored onsite in preparation of developing the site. He s#a#ed that the power line that transacts the <br />property near the pond was ins#alled for the Corning plant in 1997 or 1998. He said that there is raw <br />sewage from the residential properties along the western border of the subject site seeping over to the <br />subject site. <br />i Mr. Wallace told us that the south fork of Muddy Creek had been re-routed from its natural channel. He <br />discussed a former hand dug water supply welt that was lined with milk quartz that has since been failed <br />in with dirt. The former well was located in the southwest portion of parcel number 5544636383. He also <br />talked about how the southwest portion of parcel number 5544724095 was once going to be used as a <br />feed lot. They had built a lagoon in the area and then decided not to use it for a feed lot. <br />3 7.2 IrvTERU<>~ws WITH Loci.. GOVERNNIEM' OFt=1CIALS <br />Local Records: On October 7, 2008, CESI submitted a request to Ms. Saundra Adcock of the Cabarrus <br />~~~ County Emergency Management Department for information regarding environmental responses in the <br />vicinity of the subject site. We received notification from Mr. Steven Langer of Cabarrus County <br />~' Emergency Management on October 13, 2008 that there were no records found far 'sncidents on the <br />I subject site. A copy of the document is included in Appendix D. <br />7.3 IM'ERVIEWS WITH OTHERS <br />No other individuals were interviewed in association with this Phase 1 ESA. <br />1 8.0 FINDINGS <br />On-Site Eindinas: Aluminum cans and a stuffed chair were observed within the wooded area in the <br />northern portion of the subject site. A playhouse consisting of a tin roof with tarp walls failed with stuffed <br />chairs and a compressed gas stove was observed within the wooded area in the northern part of the <br />subject site. Several shallow pits were observed on parcel number 5544646749.
