• Regional Planning dues for Cabarrus County are $4,715 for 2008-09. The COG Board approved an <br />additional 3 cents per capita for regional planning for three years; this is the third and final year of <br />the additional dues for regional planning. These funds have supported the CONNECT Regional <br />Visioning Project. <br />• Communitkand Economic Development Commission dues for Cabarrus County are $6,000 for <br />2008-09. The commitment for participation is based upon 1) jobs, 2) median household income, <br />and 3) the County's tier ranking. <br />COG Programs and Services: <br />Area Agent on Aging (AAA) Services <br />Centralina Area Agency on Aging (AAA) allocates and monitors federal and State aging related funds <br />that come to our region. A total of $723,777 in federal and State aging related funds is directed to <br />Cabarrus County through Centralina's AAA. In addition, the county must provide its share of the <br />match for services provided by the Centralina Area Agency on Aging. As stated above, $15,574 or <br />40% of the general membership dues is committed as the county's share of match for the Area Agency <br />on Aging services. <br />Fifteen percent (15%) of Cabarrus County's population, 24,976 residents are over 60 (NC population <br />projection data for 2007). The major AAA programs /services funded in Cabarrus County include: <br />• Operation of the Cabarrus Senior Center <br />o Centralina AAA has worked closely with Cabarrus Senior Center staff to become <br />certified Senior Center of Excellence by the State governments. <br />• A Family Caregiver Support Program which supports families providing care for the elderly at <br />home. <br />• Transportation assistance, mid day meals, home delivered meals, in home aide services, adult <br />day care services, housing and home repair, consumer directed services and information and <br />assistance services for seniors are provided through the Home and Community Care Block <br />Grant. <br />• Training and placement to seniors in preparing for and securing employment is provided <br />through our Senior Community Service Employment Program. Cabarrus County's general <br />membership dues also support administration of this program. <br />• Health Promotion Disease Prevention programs promote the healthier lives. <br />• Services of our AAA Ombudsman Program staff who advocate for the rights of residents in long <br />term care facilities. Our staff provides consultation and mediation for residents, family <br />members and staff. An estimated XXX visits are made to these facilities annually to prevent or <br />resolve problems. <br />• Centralina provides a professional network and training for the public and private sector <br />providers who serve older adults and their families. <br />• Our AAA staff has recently been involved in the following several special initiatives in Cabarrus <br />County: <br />F-3 <br />Page 2 of 7 <br />Attachment number 3 <br />Page 137 of 627 <br />
