Community and Economic Development
The Centralina Economic Development Commission (CEDC) is a public non-profit organization
with a governing body of 27 members, one elected official from each of the nine counties, and
from Charlotte, Gastonia, Mooresville, and Concord. Other members represent the private and
educational sectors in the region. Jonathan Marshall represents Cabarrus County. Jeanie Moore
from the Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and Jim Greene from Concord are board members
representing interests in Cabarrus County, as well.
During 2008, the Community and Economic Development Commission completed a report and
graphic map of the companies serving the automotive supply chain in Cabarrus County and the
region. Professional staff from the Cabarrus EDC has been participating in the project. The goal is
to spot gaps in the supply chain that might offer opportunities for business recruitment.
Staff from Community and Economic Development is now working with the County on programs
to rehab and/or build housing for low income families.
Cabarrus County is an eligible area for EDA infrastructure grants. We have several airport
improvement projects on the list of potential EDA grant application. Just to note that, if Cabarrus
has another company that is expanding or relocating and they are creating new jobs, the County
could be eligible for grants of up to $1.5 million for infrastructure improvements.
Technical Assistance Services
C
COG provides technical assistance to all member jurisdictions as part of their membership dues.
These services include planning and zoning assistance, transportation planning, grant writing, code
enforcements, community and economic development related projects, and assistance with human
resource and management issues.
