Unless physically impossible, notification of the desire to take sick leave should be submitted to the employee's <br />supervisor prior to the beginning of the scheduled workday. <br />Sick leave requested in a workweek or work period c:urnol result in paid hours that exceed the scheduled hours <br />for the week or period. The sick leave hours requested but not needed to complete a scheduled workweek or <br />work period will remain in the employee's accrued sick leave balance. <br />Section •139. Siclc Leave - Manner of z4eetfttxdsrtterrAccrual <br />Anniversary date of employment shall be used for determining sick leave. For the purpose of calculating sick <br />leave, the basic work week shall be forty-{-X8)-40 hours. Each regular and probationary employee scheduled to <br />work at least 1,000 hours during the calendar year shall be credited sick leave at the rate of 3 hours, 4l minutes <br />and 32 seconds for each completed bi-weekly pay period, or 95 hours, 59 minutes and 52 seconds for each <br />completed year (52 weeks) of service. <br />Emergency rrrMedical sService 2~1/~18 personnel shall be credited sick leave at the rate of 5 hours, 9 minutes and <br />13 seconds for each completed bi-weekly pay period, or 133 hours, 59 minutes and 13 seconds for each <br />completed year (52 weeks) of service. Law enforcement officers working a 12 hour shift schedule shall be <br />credited sick leave at the rate of 3 hours, 52 minutes, and 36 seconds for each completed biweekly pay period, <br />or 100 hours, 47 minutes, and 51 seconds for each completed year (52 weeks) of service. These employees shall <br />be charged on an hour for hour basis for sick leave taken. <br />Sick leave credited to regular and probationary employees scheduled to work at least 1,000 hours during the <br />calendar year but fewer hours than the basic work week steal l be determined in accordance with the formula set <br />forth in Section 28-15 of this Article. <br />Section X10. Advance Sick Leave <br />The County Manager; may advance sick leave to an employee who has exhausted sick leave because of a major <br />operation or illness. This advanced sick leave may not exceed 80 hours, except with the approval of the Board <br />of Commissioners. <br />At the time of an employee's separation, any sick leave owed the County shall be deducted from the employee's <br />final compensation or collected from hiu~ or her, if not available in hisf or her final compensation. <br />Section •1-~11.
