Health Care anct Ltsurance Benefits <br />fie-Cabarrus County }~u+ellasesprovides basic group health and life insurance benefit plans for: <br />(a) Current full-time employees with coverage beginning the first day of the month after a full month of <br />employment and ending on the last day of the month when separation occurs~l. <br />(b) Retirees from County service under the North Carolina Local Governmental Employees' <br />Retirement System hired July I, 1997 or after and those who opted for retirement health care coverage at that <br />time (employees subject to the requirements listed under Schedule "A--' of Article Vl, Section H-5 of this <br />at•dinauce) ivftl~may continue or decline coverage eentit}t~i~g-from their last employment date until they <br />become eligible for Medicare (a• reach the age where they would have had such benefits if they had been <br />qualified for Social Security). 'this decision should be made prior to retirement, but no later than GO days after <br />retirement from Cabarrus County. Retirees with coverage are required to notify the County when they become <br />Medicare eligible. <br />(c) Retirees from County service under the North Carolina Local Governmental Employees' Retirement <br />System who declined retirement health care coverage .luly 1, 1997 (employees subject to the requirements listed <br />under Schedule B of Article Vl, Section 5 while actively employed with the County) may only purchase health <br />insurance coverage for themselves and their eligible dependents to the extent mandated by the Consolidated <br />Omnibus Budget Act (C013RA). Life insurance is not provided by the County; however, coverage may be <br />converted to a private plan at retirement. <br />(d) Employees and retirees may be required to participate in premiums for basic group health vui life <br />insurance plans. <br />50 <br />Attachment number 3 <br />Page 178 of 362 <br />F-5 <br />
