The classifications eligible for the educational incentive program are listed below. The educational <br />incentive program is established to pay $.75 per month or $9.00 per year for each quarter hour up to 96 <br />quarter hours of credit toward a two year degree at an accredited college or university as this credit is <br />earned. The program pays $12.00 per month for every completed unit of 10 semester hours of credit up to <br />120 hours toward a four year degree from appropriately accredited institutions of higher learning as this <br />credit is earned. The program pays $20.00 per month for every completed unit of 10 semester hours of <br />credit up to 50 hours toward a Master's degree from appropriately accredited institutions of higher <br />learning. <br />Employees eligible for the Sheriff's educational incentive program shall be exempt from educational <br />leave with pay in Article VI, Section 30 and tuition reimbursement in Section 14 of this Article. <br />Classifications eligible for the Sheriff's education incentive program: <br />Classification Department Maximum Education Level <br />Captain Sheriff B.A., Criminal Justice <br />Crime Scene Officer Sheriff B.A., Criminal Justice <br />Detective Sheriff B.A., Criminal Justice <br />Chief Deputy Sheriff B.A., Criminal Justice <br />Deputy Sheriff Sheriff B.A., Criminal Justice <br />Lieutenant Sheriff B.A., Criminal Justice <br />Sergeant Sheriff B.A., Criminal Justice <br />Training Lieutenant Sheriff B.A., Criminal Justice <br />Section 14. Reimbursement for Tuition <br />A full time non-probationary employee may receive reimbursement for courses taken which will better <br />equip the employee to perform assigned duties subject to the approval of the department head and the <br />County Manager. The county shall reimburse the employee for tuition and course fees up to $1000 each <br />fiscal year. <br />Reimbursement requires a statement of how the course applies to or benefits assigned duties, a receipt <br />showing qualifying expenses have been paid, and a notice of successful completion (grade C or better; or <br />pass for pass/fail grading) from an appropriately accredited institution of higher learning. This statement <br />is submitted to the Human Resources Director for administrative review prior to County Manager <br />approval. <br />Employees receiving tuition reimbursement are required to continue County employment for 12 months <br />following the completion date of the course that is reimbursed. Failure to meet this requirement will result <br />in the reimbursed amount being deducted from the employee's final compensation or collected from the <br />employee if not available in their final check. <br />Section 15.
