CABARRUS COUNTY ZONING ORDINANCE <br />2-B. Agriculture-Female Chickens (limited number)-Less than 5 acres <br />a) Zones Permitted based on standards <br />Low Density Residential, Medium Density Residential <br />b) All lots that are utilized as single family detached residential will be <br />permitted up to the following number of female chickens: <br />Number of Female Chickens Permitted: <br /><1 acre-5 <br />1 acre-10 <br />2-5 acres-15 <br />c) Standards: <br />1. Female chickens are for egg production only; <br />2. The chicken house and run must be fully enclosed and the hens kept <br />within it at all times. All chicken houses must be properly maintained in a <br />safe, clean and sanitary condition that poses no health threat to the chickens <br />or citizens and does not create a public nuisance. Runs must be well drained <br />so that there will be no accumulation of moisture. <br />3. The chicken house must be used for female chickens only and must be <br />well ventilated. Houses shall be located a minimum of 25 feet from any <br />property line. Run areas must be located a minimum of 25 feet from any <br />property line and 50' fi•om any stream. <br />4. All feed and other items associated with the keeping of chickens shall be <br />stored properly and protected from rodents; <br />5. Waste products generated from the raising of chickens shall be disposed <br />of properly. If on site composting is performed, compost storage areas shall <br />be located a minimum of 25' from any property line and 50' from any stream. <br />(**See below for additional composting information.) If onsite composting is <br />not used, all chicken related waste must be double bagged before being <br />placed in on site roll out trash bins. <br />7. All structures, fencing, and hens must be located in the rear yard of the <br />dwelling.
