The <br />recommendations are supplemented by specific strategies, or action steps, that will aid in <br />the realization of the vision reflected irrthe plan. The recommendations and strategies. <br />are in no particular order; they are presented in a menu-style format, designedto allow <br />those involved in impiementation to evaluate each to determine priorities and identify <br />short-, mid-and long-term tasks. <br />5,2 i_anc! Use, Housing anti ~COnomic Development <br />(LU-i) Recognize the value of existing agricultural land and protect it for future <br />agricultural purposes. <br />^ Protect existing.. agricultural operations from encroachment of development, <br />particularly new residential subdivisions. <br />o Increase awareness of voluntary agricultural districts and the benefits to <br />Increase the number of properties in agricultural use-and increase <br />geographic area-in the program. <br />^ Protect prime. farmland soils and soils of statewide importance in support of <br />efforts to maintain agriculture as a viable component of the county's economy:.. <br />To enhance the effectiveness of existing regulations that include: prime <br />farmland soils and soils of statewide importance in the definition. of open <br />space, provide incentives to protect these soils. As:a model forths, the <br />Soiland Water Conservation District (SVNGI)) recommends the LEER <br />certification process provision that gives such credit for protecting such <br />soils. <br />(LU-2) Support additional residential development in the Central Area at varying <br />densities-based on the pattern e$pressed in the Central Area Plan map and the <br />availability of public utilities and transportation access. <br />^ Allow single-family, detached residential units ih:most if not all portions of the <br />Central Area. <br />o Based on the availability of public utilities and transportation access, single- <br />family detached homes should remain the primary use within the Study Area. <br />o In order to protect existing agricultural land, the balance of the northern <br /> <br />
