f
(
f
Christine Barrier is a career Extension employee with over 25 years of service. She is truly an invaluable member
of the NCCES Team in building a progressive program in Cabarrus and around the state. Her desire to improve
herself and others is exemplary. Her willingness to take on additional responsibilities creates that'above and
beyond' mentality that is represented to all staff members, state and local governing officials, and more importantly,
the clientele. This mentality encourages all that come in contact with her to do the same. She volunteers for extra
responsibilities beyond the county and district, and has demonstrated her leadership through her involvement with
the many state leadership committees including the Change Management and Marketing Initiative. She strives to
position Cooperative Extension within our community and around the state to strengthen the understanding of our
relevance in a vastly changing demographic area. Christine is an active, hands-on, in constant movement example
of how Extension is `helping people put knowledge to work.' She exemplifies true selfless professionalism, and is
always about follow-through and completion.
Awards & Professional Recognition includes:
1993 President, NCCESA -Southwest District
1994 Award of Excellence -Special Leadership Skills -District Recognition
1996 Fifteen (15) Years with NCCES
1997 President, NCCESA -Piedmont District
1997 Secretary-Of-The-Year, NCCESA-Piedmont District
1999-2001 NCSU Staff Senate
2000 Twenty-five (25) Years with Cabarrus County Government
2000 State Award of Meritorious Support Service - Epsilon Sigma Phi
2000 Search For Excellence - NC Grange-NCCES Foundation
2001 Twenty (20) Years with NCCES
2001 Membership -Epsilon Sigma Phi
2001 Board of Directors - NCFCEA
2001 Award For Excellence -NCSU-GALS Recipient
2001 Award For Excellence -NCSU Nominee
2001 Secretary-Of-The-Year, NCCESA-Southwest District
2002 Award of Excellence -Special Leadership Skills -Nominee
2002 NCCESA'Executive Board' Award
2003 Award of Excellence -Special Leadership Skills -District Recognition
2004 SWD Registration Chairperson, NCCESA State Conference
2005 Thirty (30) Years with Cabarrus County Government
2005 PENDY (Pendaflex) Administrative Professional-of--the-Year -Nominee
2006 Twenty-five (25) Years with NCCES
2006 Award of Excellence -Secretaries Category -
NCCooperative Extension Foundation & NC State Grange -Winner
2007 Award of Excellence -Special Leadership Skills -District Recognition
2007 Dr. Jon & Mrs. Debbie Ort Award for Outstanding Cooperative Extension Personnel -Inaugural Year Award
Winner
Christine Barrier, Administrative Secretary and Assistant to the County Director, began her career in 1981, when she
was hired as part-time 4-H Secretary. Her accomplishments during her career are impressive, and have had a major
impact on the clientele, county and state partners, and others that work with the Cooperative Extension. Christine is
extremely competent and professional. She is a 'leader among leaders.' Conscientious, able to keep track of
multiple tasks in various stages of development, she is essential to the normal operations within the county center.
Christine is the main communication contact with the other county and state departments. Her smiling personality
and gentle nature creates the positive interaction necessary to maintain this critical linkage. She is always
concerned about the level of customer service that her office provides and works closely with other secretaries to
develop these very important skills.
Her commitment to Cooperative Extension has always been a strong and leading component of Christine's
marketing our organization to others. She has held all officer positions in the NCCESA-SWD, and chaired all major
and special committees. When the Piedmont District was formed, Christine was there to make sure that NCCESA
created a new district association. She organized the initial meeting for this new district and served as its first
President, being able to see the need for her district's participation in this state organization. She was awarded the
`Secretary-Of-The-Year' for her foresight and development skills.
