state is but another shining example of her commitment. She has served in all officer positions of the NCCESA
and 4 years as State Parliamentarian. Under her leadership, the widely-used'Book-Of-Maps' was revised and
each county's webpage updated to include their location map. She organized the first-ever Past State Presidents
Recognition at the 2001 conference in efforts to provide future presidents with a vast pool of support and
knowledge during their tenure. Through her research and perseverance, all states in the southern region were
contacted for possible organization of a regional/national support staff association, resulting with exchange annual
meeting visits with the South Carolina and Alabama secretary organizations during her year of presidency.
Positive contacts were made at the 2007 JCEP and PILD Conferences. Christine personally gathered names and
addresses of over 30 persons of interest from 10 states at 2007 JCEP. She met with the State President of Chi
Epsilon Sigma-Delta Chapter (Extension Support Staff Fraternity) at PILD. After sharing collected information with
the NCCESA President and State Outreach Committee, a July 13, 2007 formation meeting is held in Burke County.
With all 50 states invited to attend, the result was the formation of the Southeast Regional Extension 8~ Research
Support Staff Association. Christine sits on the Planning Committee for the initial regional meeting in 2008. Along
with her loyalty to NCCESA, Christine has also served in a leadership role for Extension at the state level. She
served on the North Carolina State University Staff Senate for two years, was commissioned by Extension
Administration to become a member of the Blue Ribbon Commission to establish professional development
programs for all Extension staff which is now recognized as PODS. Through her leadership, the secretaries group
was the first to complete their portion of the competencies and directives. She then served on the Curriculum
Writing Team to further develop these competencies.
Christine was honored in 2004 to be a part of the initial committee to establish and write criteria for the Sue A. Mills
Lighthouse 'Spirit of Light' Award. Christine, like Sue, is a'take charge' person; one who will find an answer
when questioned if she does not know it herself. She personally hosted the Mills Family during the 2004 NCCESA
Annual Conference where they presented the first lighthouse award. She accepted the call in 2004 from
Administration to become a member of the Guiding Coalition to start the'Change Journey' for Cooperative
Extension during the Unity Retreats. Being identified as someone who could bring vision and energy, she was asked
to join the elite Core Team in 2005 where she used her areas of expertise on the Public Image Action Team. She
has been named to the Marketing and Communications Team of the Change Management and Marketing
Initiative by Administration to develop consistent marketing messages for Extension's future branding mechanisms.
Christine alone represents all Extension SPA employees.
Christine has served on various Search Committees to secure Extension Administration positions. She sat on the
Search Committee to create the Extension Marketing Director position. She has served as a member of the
Board of Directors of the Extension Federation and actively participated at their annual meeting. She was elected
in 2006 by NCCESA to represent her peers as President-Elect of Federation. Under her design and leadership as
Chair of the Recognitions and Awards Committee, Christine will present the first `Leadership 8 Service
Recognition' at the 2007 Federation Annual Meeting in December, prior to being installed as 2008 NCFCEA
President.
Christine was instrumental in establishing the NCCES Extension Foundation, and worked very closely with her
former County Extension Director and Foundation's first Executive Director, Mr. Alvin M. Stanford. Through their
vision and leadership, the Extension Foundation benefits all Extension employees today. She has served on the
Board of Directors and as Chairman of the Benevolence Committee. She eagerly volunteered to assist as
'Recording Secretary' during the times of vacancy. The highlight of her chairmanship was the opportunity to be of
assistance to a Extension Office Assistant from Beaufort County soon after her home was destroyed by fire.
Christine's Extension career has certainly been an outstanding one. In May, 2000 she teamed together with two
district secretaries in developing and facilitating'New Secretaries Orientation' for their state-wide professional
development training. Because of the visionary design and production of this training document, Christine's team
received the Search For Excellence -Team Award from the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service
Foundation.
Continuing to excel as the Extension professional she is, Epsilon Sigma Phi awarded her the 2000 Meritorious
Support Award and received her as a new fraternity member. Having the unique opportunity to attend JCEP (Joint
Council of Extension Professionals) and PILD (Public Issues Leadership Development) Conference, Christine
has continued to open more doors of opportunity for support staff. She has been quick to learn from networking
with Extension professionals from across the United States, and she never hesitated to help United States
Item# 2
Attachment number 1
