1 <br />(2) Maintain anoperational journal/event log during the emergency. <br />Monitor and authenticate reports to and from the Emergency Operations Center. Conduct I <br />scheduled bnefings,~nd periodic updates as required. <br />(3) Receive requests for assistance from municipalities and agencies <br />within the County and direct aid to areas where needed. Set priorities for available <br />resources and implement controls on these resources while restoring essential services. <br />{4) As necessary, request additional assistance from the North Carolina <br />Division of Emergency Management. <br />(5) Disseminate information through Public Information Officer (PIO) <br />during emergency situations. Assist the PIO in developing and maintaining a public <br />information/education program. <br />(6) Coordinate with the American Red Cross representative to activate <br />reception and shelter areas within the county. Also, coordinate with adjoining counties <br />for additional shelter support as needed. <br />d. After the emergency situation has subsided or passed, recovery operations <br />will begin. The Emergency Management Coordinator will direct local recovery operations <br />and coordinate the activities of private, State, and Federal agencies/organizations. l <br />(1) Train, equip, and deploy trained damage assessment teams during I <br />recovery operations. <br />(2) Oversee recovery operations at hazardous materials incidents to insure <br />the safety of the public and protection of the environment. <br />3 At the direction of the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, <br />(} <br />initiate the return of evacuees to homes when safe to do so. Monitor the progress and <br />modify evacuation procedures when needed. <br />(4) Work with the Western Branch Office to organize and equip <br />DHS/FEMA Disaster Assistance Centers within the county. <br />(5) Assist with identification and notification of applicants eligible for <br />Public Assistance programs (Federal, State, and local government entities, private non- <br />profit organizations, etc.) <br />e, In the event of an emergency involving the McGuire Nuclear Station, the <br />existing response procedures will remain in effect. The Emergency Management <br />~,~ Coordinator will serve as the principal contact for emergency notification of incidents <br />involving the McCruire Nuclear Station and inform appropriate local officials.
