Public Information Officer a. Prepare procedures to keep local citizens informed during emergency situations. Include the use of the Emergency Alerting System (EAS) in these preparations. b. Maintain a current inventory of public information resources. Establish and maintain a working relationship with the local media. c. Provide emergency information materials for the public including the hearing- impaired and non-English speaking groups. d. Coordinate alI media releases pertaining to emergency planning and operations with the Emergency Management Coordinator. Clear all information with appropriate agencies before release to the media. Authenticate and verify all sources of information received before release. e. Develop a system for public rumor control. Establish a phone bank to provide emergency information, contacts for missing relatives, information on restricted areas and locations for emergency shelter and care. f. Develop media advisories for the public as required by the situation. g. In the event of a Fixed Nuclear Facility incident, maintain contact with the Joint Information Center (JIC) to obtain information fox news releases. All other PIO procedures will remain in effect. h. Provide information on Federal Disaster Assistance Centers when these locations are opened. i. Report to the EOC upon activation. 5. Cabarrus County Sheriff a. Maintain cwrent internal notification/recailmsters and communications systems. b. Assist in warning and notifying the local population of an impending or existing emergency situation. c.
