13
are victims of domestic violence. In some cases, this has been the norm in the
household for an extended period of time, and it has been determined that
professional help is needed to assist in dealing with the issues surrounding the
problem. There is a need to refer to professional organizations for counseling.
b. Provision: DAYMARK Recovery Services, United Family Services, and
Cabarrus Victims Assistance Network (CVAN) provide the provision of
counseling services. These agencies deal with personal and family
counseling.
c. Location: Both service delivery sites are in relatively close proximity to
DSS. DAYMARK Recovery Services is in the same human service complex
and United Family Services is only a few miles away in Concord. CVAN is
located in the county in a secured location and initially accessed by the
recipient. The Work First social worker works with the recipient to assure
appropriate services are accessed.
8. Individual and Family Adjustment
a. Description: In some instances, there may be occasion to refer a Work First
recipient for a more in-depth provision of services by accessing Individual and
Family Adjustment Services. There may be obstacles or barriers in the home
that require the expertise of social workers that deal with these kinds of issues.
These issues can include household management, consumer affairs, family life,
alcoholism, drug addiction, mental retardation, emotional disturbances, and
school-related problems.
b. Provision: For the most part, provision of these types of services will be
provided by the Work First social worker. In situations where there are
emotional disturbances or possible mental illness issues, recipients will be
referred to DAYMARK Recovery Services.
c. Location: Normally, services would be provided in the DSS office, with
referral to other agencies.
9. Day Care for Adults
a. Description: Just as in the description for "hi Home Aides", the population is
getting older, and in some instances the primary barrier to work could be the
need to stay with an older family member who resides with the Work First
recipient. Adult Day Care is an excellent service to relieve caregiver stress. It
has been used in Cabarrus County for a number of years to allow families to
work, and the Work First population is increasingly beginning to mirror the
general population in the County.
b. Provision: This service would be provided at a certified adult day care center
in the county.
c. Location: Presently Coltrane LIFE Center in Concord is the only certified
adult day care center in the county.
0. Counseling and Problem Solving:
a. Description: This is a supportive service provided by the Work First social
workers to assist recipients in the movement toward independence. It consists
I' ''
