CABARRUS COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />AGENDA ITEM REQUEST <br />Meeting Date 8/20/07 <br />Agenda Item #~ i l <br />SUBJECT: <br />Designation of new Cox Mill High School as Emergency Shelter with Authorization to <br />Finance Emergency Power System with the Project <br />BRIEF SUMMARY: <br />Currently, emergency power systems at area schools provide only emergency lighting and <br />refrigeration. Since schools are used for shelters during emergency situations, it would be <br />advantageous for the emergency power systems to generate sufficient power to use the <br />facility as a shelter even when electric utilities fail. Minimum base emergency <br />requirements cost $100,000.
