Cabarrus County Department of Aging
MEMORANDUM
To: Cabarrus Couuty Board of Commissioners
From: Michael L. Murphy, CIRS-A ~~
Date: August 28, 2007
Subject: Food Vendor Contract for the LunchPlus Club program
Enclosed please fmd the contract with Varsity BBQ for the remainder of FY'2008 for catering services
for our LunchPlus Club program. We conducted an open bid because we were not successful in
negotiating a competitive rate from Canteen Vending Services, our ourrent vendor. Canteen Vending
Servieec requested a 57¢ per meal increase and justi£ed this request with the rising casts of fuel and food.
Considering that this price represerrts a 17% increase, the Departmerrt of Aging staff decided to conduct
the open bid in an effort to keep our vendors competitive.
Aa a result, two bids were received and Varsity BBQ submitted the lowest price of $3.60 per meat.
Canteen Vending Services submitted a price of $3.98 per meal, Atthough the price from Varsity BBQ
represents a 19¢ per meal increase from the current rate of $3.41 per meat, the Departmegt of Aging staff
considers Ibis 6% increase to be more realistic considering the increase in fuel and food costs.
The funding for this contract is currently included in our FY'2008 budget. No additional funding will be
necessary to implement this contract. The estimated difference in the total meal cost for the remainder of
FY'08 is approximately $8,060. The decrease in participation in the Lunchplus Club program crested by
moving rho Katmapotis program from the Cannon Memorial YMCA to the Lane Street Church of God
should offset this incrmse.
t~ behalf of the Cabarms Coumy Departmem of Aging, I respectftilly request approval of the attached
LunchPlus Club contract with Varsity BBQ for FY'2068.
Thank you for your time and consideration. Your continued support of aging services in Cabarrus Counit7y
is sincerely appreciated.
PO Box Tel.
