Additional Information: The 15-Year Facilities Plan addresses the capacity issue in the southeast
past of the county where we axe experiencing rapid growth as follows:
Lower Rocky River Elementary and Southern Elementary School (Schools needed near Lower
Rocky River Road area and south of Harrisburg)- If these schools open with a capacity of 700
students each in the fall of 2008 and 2009 respectively, we would anticipate Harrisburg, Rocky River,
and A. T. Allen to drop below 100% capacity fox a short time. However, based on the number of
approved lots in the Subdivision Lot Inventory, we would anticipate at build out, all five schools
would again be at approximately 100% capacity. This is with no additional subdivision approval by
either the County, the City of Concord, or the Town of Harrisburg. We would anticipate creating the
new elementary attendance areas by shifting students from the Harrisburg, Rocky River, and A. T.
Allen Elementary Schools.
South East Middle School (School needed-near Hickory Ridge High School area) -This school is
listed as needed by 2008 and is included in the top five on the Critical Projects List fox 2007-2012
due to the current enrollment at C. C. Griffin Middle of 1440 students. C. C. Griffin is expected to
gain an additiona1900 students based on the number of approved lots in the Subdivision Lot
Inventory. This figure is based on the new school being built to accommodate 1200 students.
Therefore, both C. C. Griffin and the new middle school would be at 100% capacity upon build out
of the approved lots. This is with no additional subdivision approval by the County, the City of
Concord, or the Town of Harrisburg.
Boundaries have not been created nor approved by the Board of Education at this time fox the above
mentioned projects. Therefore, it is very difficult to determine accurate figures fox each individual
school that will be impacted by these projects. The figures mentioned were derived by using the
October Subdivision Lotlnventory and determining the impact on the elementary, middle, and high
school by each approved pproject.
Cabarrus County Schools operating at 110% capacity axe considered to be operating at maximum
capacity.
The Subdivision Lot Inventory Spreadsheet has been updated through November of 2007
2
~'T
