Summary <br />NC 3 Land Use/ Transportation Corridor Study Outline <br />Study Area <br />The NC 3 study area extends from Center Street in Mooresville, through <br />unincorporated portions of Iredell and Cabarrus Counties, to the Kannapolis <br />Parkway in Kannapolis, a distance of about 15 miles. The study area also <br />includes the East-West Connector in Mooresville (which will link NC 3 with the <br />Langtree Road exit on I-77) and the future portion of the Kannapolis Parkway <br />north of NC 3 to the Rowan County line. <br />Project Players <br />Participating communities include Mooresville, Kannapolis, Iredell County, and <br />Cabarrus County. Centralina COG with serve as the project consultant. <br />Project Calendar <br />The Study will start in October 2007 and should be completed and adopted by <br />the four local governments in August 2008. <br />Project Scope <br />Step I. Appoint Advisory CommiBee <br />An Advisory Committee will be created that includes: elected officials <br />and staff from each jurisdiction; A representative from NCDOT Divisions 10 <br />and 12; Representatives from Chambers of Commerce/EDC's; local <br />citizens, etc. The advisory committee will meet approximately five times <br />during the course of the study. <br />Step 2. Public Input <br />Two well-advertised community forums will be held to garner additional <br />public comment and input on the NC 3 Corridor. One meeting will each <br />be held in Cabarrus and Iredell Counties. In addition, Centralina will <br />interview a number of key stakeholders (property owners, business owners, <br />neighborhood associations, etc.) to get additional comment on issues <br />facing the Corridor. <br />Step 3. Create Corridor Vision <br />The Advisory Committee, with facilitation by Centralina, will create a consensus <br />document for the study area. The document will reflect input from stakeholders, <br />the Advisory Committee and from the public forums, and will serve as the <br />guiding document when reviewing land use and transportation plans for <br />consistency, for environmental resource preservation, as well as subsequent <br />development proposals along the corridor in the future.
