Charles E. Boger - A two hundred seat addition constructed by 2010 would bring the capacity to
less than 100%, However, we would expect this capacity to rise above 100% at build out based on
the approved lots in the current Subdivision Lot Inventory. With the addition of a new elementary
school in the noxthwestem part of the county we could possibly tweak the Bogez attendance area
boundary to keep it slightly under capacity. Any additional subdivision approvals by either the
County or the City of Kannapolis would alter this plan.
Cox Mill High School We would expect this new school to draw students from the west side of
Lake Howell/Coddle Creek from the current Northwest Cabarrus attendance area. Approximately
two thirds of the approved lots in the current Subdivision Lot Inventory are located west of Lake
Howell. Therefore, with'the opening of the new high school we would expect the capacity at
Northwest Cabarrus to be reduced to approximately 80%. This will ultimately be determined by how
the boundary is created and how much relief we can give Jay M. Robinson High School.
Northwestern Elementary School - If this school opens with a capacity of 700 students in the fall
of 2009, we would anticipate Cox Mill and W. R. Odell elementaries to drop below 100% capacity
for a short time. However, based on the number of approved lots in the Subdivision Lot Inventory
we would anticipate at build out a shortage of approximately 400 elementary seats in the Cox Mill
and W. R. Odell attendance. This is with no additional subdivision approval by either the County or
the City of Kannapolis. We would anticipate creating the new elementary attendance area by shifting
students from these two schools.
South Central Middle School -This school is listed "as needed" by 2009 but is not included in the
top five on the Critical Ptojects List fox 2007-2012. Hams Road and Northwest Cabarrus middle
schools have already exceeded 100% capacity and J. N. Fries is expected to reach 100% by the end of
this school year. Based on the number of approved lots in the Subdivision Lot Inventory, we would
anticipate at build out a shortage of approximated 200 seats in these three middle schools. This
figure is based on the new school being built to accommodate 1200 students. This is with no further
subdivision approval by the County or the Town of Harrisburg between the NC Highway 49 and U.
S. Highway 29 corridor.
Boundaries have not been created nor approved by the Board of Education at this time Eor the above
mentioned projects. Therefore, it is very difficult to determine accurate figures for each individual
school that will be impacted by the mentioned projects. The figares mentioned were derived by
using the November Subdivision Inventory and determining the impact on the elementary, middle,
and high school by each approved project.
Cabarrus County Schools operating at 110% capacity axe considered to be operating at maximum
capacity.
The Subdivision Lot Inventory Spreadsheet has been updated through December of 2007
2
N-s
