<br />5. Ifno pulse, open AED case and activate the AED by depressing the Power or <br />On/Off button <br />6. Apply Electrode Pads to chest <br />7. Rescuer who applies the Electrode Pads should look for: <br />Wet skin - Dry with a towel <br />Transdermal Medication Patch - with gloved hand wipe off <br />medication with a towel and discard <br />Implantable Pacemakers or Defibrillators - DO NOT place <br />Electrode Pad directly over implanted device. <br />Caution - if patient is lying in water remove to a dry area <br />8. If there is a delay in applying the Electrode Pads, begin CPR <br />9. Plug in Electrodes to AED if not already done. <br />10. Once the AED begins to ANALYZE, stand clear of patient, making sure that <br />you and no one else is in contact with the patient. Stop CPR if it was in <br />progress <br />State, "I'm Clear, you're clear, we're all clear", all the while look <br />from head to toe, back to the head making sure that no one is in <br />contact with the patient, AED, and Electrode Pads. <br />11. SHOCK indicated, then depress the SHOCK button. <br />12. Continue to follow instructions verbalized by the AED. <br />13. If NO SHOCK is indicated, then immediately assess for Pulse, then breathing <br />If no pulse then begin CPR until AED begins to ANALYZE <br />If pulse present, and no breathing, begin Rescue Breathing (I breath <br />every 5 seconds) <br />If both pulse and breathing are present, and the patient is still <br />unconscious, then either position patient in the Recovery Position (left <br />lateral recumbent position) or maintain head-tilt, chin-lift. <br /> <br />B. INITIAL EMS RESPONSE PRlOR TO DEFIBRILLATION <br /> <br />1. If Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel arrive BEFORE the <br />defibrillation protocol is complete, the AED Rescuer will continue the <br />protocol as directed by the AED until EMS personnel acknowledge that they <br />are assuming responsibility for further treatment of the patient. <br />2. Upon arrival of EMS personnel the AED Rescuer should begin a dialogue <br />briefing them on the patient's condition, <br />3. What AED intervention has occurred thus far? <br />4. And, provide any other information they may request. <br /> <br />VIII.
