Attached is a letter to your Commission Chairs requesting an
exception to a NC DOT policy. Reed Gold Mine is in need of signage at the 1-485 and
Albemarle Road (NC 24/27) interchange. DOT policy does not allow directional signs more
than 10 miles from an attraction and Reed Gold Mine is 13.6 miles from that interchange.
I've worked with Tom Thrower and Rick Mason on this, but they cannot make an exception to
the policy. At the advise of Kay Williams, Director of the Division of NC State Historic
Sites, I contacted Larry Helms. Larry's request was for the County Commissions in both
Cabarrus and Stanly to send a letter requesting an exception to the 10 mile rule to Barry
Moose, Division 10 Engineer, in Albemarle.
This should give them the justification for the exception to the rule.

Sorry to give you another burden, but hopefully this can be a simple
one. Let me know if you have any questions or need me to address this
to your respective Boards. Thanks for your help.

Bob Remsburg

(P.S.
