Please see the coun JCPC Re uest For Pro sal for elevated risk/needs. <br />Home Based Counselors will obtain training on "combating gang violence" and "adolescent substance abuse" in order <br />to provide intensive counseling and service interventions in these elevated risk areas. Gang association and activity is <br />on the rise in this area and surrounding counties. Therefore, it is imparilve to work in collaboration with the youth, <br />families, and community as a whole to address the problem. The counselors will seek to educate families on the <br />effects and long term impact of gang violence and drug use, and offer alternative behaviors. Any necessary referrals <br />will be made to community resources. <br /> <br />(2) Protective Factors: Describe how you will address one or more of the Priority Protective Factors listed in the local <br />JCPC Request for Proposal. <br />Intensive counseling will be provided to the parents to educate them on the impact of gang violence, the warning signs, <br />and substance abuse of their teens. The Home Based Counselor will encourage open communication and listening <br />skills between the parent and teen. They will also offer support and guidance to help bridge any relationship barriers in <br />the home that could hinder growth and change. Counselors will stress the importance of having healthy parental <br />beliefs and values to promote healthy thinking and beliefs in their teens. Referrals will be made to the Active Parenting <br />of Teens class, which reinforces concepts discussed by the counselors. <br /> <br />F-15 <br />
