Office of the County Manager Memorandum To: Board of Commissioners Prom: Mike Downs 0\15 Deputy County Manager CC: John Day County Manager Date: January 4, 2005 Ref: Arena and Events Center-Private Management Each of the three private management finalists submitted a list of individuals who are knowledgeable in the financial and operational aspects of the convention centers, arenas, auditoriums, and/or theatres that they are currently managing. Most of them played a major role in the selection process when their jurisdiction chose a private management firm and others are responsible for the oversight of the contracts and the annual operating budgets. Enclosed you will find documentation of the "reference checks" performed by County staff and the Convention and Visitor Bureau staff. Each person was asked the same questions and then given a chance to add any additional comments at the end of the conversation. Overall, the comments were positive for all three. Please review the attached information and advise the staff on how to proceed. All three of the companies have offered for the members of the Board to visit any of the facilities that they are presently operating. If the Board wishes to do so, I will make the arrangements immediately. I urge you to keep this process moving forward in a timely manner. It has been approximately six months since the decision was made to hire a private management company.
