~CIllJ(;JClj

WILDLIFE HABITAT COUNCIL"

April 22, 2005

Chair
Cabarrus Coimty Commission
PO Box 707
Governmental Center
Concord, NC USA 28026

Dear Chair:

Weare all quite aware that habitat is the most critical factor in restoring or maintaining healthy
and diverse wildlife populations and land owned by companies will playa major role in the
future of wildlife. The Wildlife Habitat Council (WHC) has worked with employees from many
companies on more than I ;000 sites located around the world. These sites include over 2.5
million acres ofland placed in voluntary programs for habitat improvement. Programs are
undertaken at corporate facility sites, often in cooperation with local community groups, such as
scouts, at-risk youth, schools, government agencies, universities and conservation groups.

In this critical time of many challenges, our leaders should continue to recognize the
importance of environmental protection and benefits of a strong, visionary environmental
and energy policy. Since our beginning in 1988, WHC and our members have been showing the
world how powerful a simple approach to restoring and enhancing wildlife habitats can be.

This year, WHC's Corporate Wildlife Habitat Certification/International Accreditation Program
has grown to 353 WHC certified programs. Even more important, the quality of these programs
continues to improve with increased wildlife benefits, community involvement and conservation
education activities. Visit the online Registry of Certified Programs at www.wildlifehc.or!!to
read more detailed descriptions of our projects.

Many of our elected officials are not aware of these extraordinary, community-based, corporate-
led efforts for wildlife habitat improvement. The Wildlife Habitat Council is taking this time
during our Earth Day celebrations to let your know that one or more of the WHC certified
programs are located in your state.

Enclosed you will find a press release from the Wildlife Habitat Council's (WHC) 16th Annual
Symposium to give you just an idea about one ofWHC's programs. We hope that you will take
the time to get in touch with the local contacts to recognize their ongoing habitat and educational
programs.

Page I

C-I

8737 Colesville Road, Suite 800, Silver Spring.
