I COMPONENT SUMMARY (attach for each component) <br /> Statement of the Problem <br /> In concise terminology, describe the juvenile justice problem(s) to address and how these setvicesmeet the needs or <br /> setvice gaDs identified in the JCPC Annual Plan. <br /> Juveniles can only discern the impact of the damages or injury caused by their offenses if they have had the <br /> opportunity to provide restoration to the. victim or community through their own effort. Project Challenge provides this <br /> opportunity. Project Challenge meets the growing need for deferral agreements, as well as the need for diversion <br /> contracts, and Levell and II dispositions. <br /> Target Population <br /> Describe the taraet DODulation and SteDS taken to insure that the taraet DODulation is setved. <br /> Ptoject Challenge has identified juveniles between the ages of 10 and 17 years of age that have been referred by the <br /> juvenile court system or the Juvenile Court Counselors as its target population. <br /> Program Goal(s) State the effect this component is designed to have on solving the problem described above. <br /> The goal of the program is to provide the Juvenile Court System and the Department of Juvenile Justice with a <br />., dispositional stt:lJcture for restitution and rehabilitation in delinquent and undisciplined cases, .aswell asa.suitable.plan. .... <br />. for deferral agreements. Project Challenge, while a service to the court, will also be providing participants and local .... <br /> communities a program that increases self-esteem and civic awareness. <br /> Measurable Objective(s) <br /> State in measurable terms the intended effect on specific undisciplined and/or delinquent behaviors. Example: anticipated <br /> reductions in court referrals, runaway behavior, disruptive behavior at school, anticipated improved school attendance and academic <br /> achievement. These objectives must include participant outcomes and may Include program outcomes. <br /> 65% of youth served will have no new referals to juvenile or adult court. By six and twelve month survey and follow <br /> up with clerk of court, of the participants who have completed the program 96% or 48 of 50 participants have had no <br /> new court referal. 65% of youth served will have a reduction, or no increase, in school disciplinary refer;rals. By six and <br /> twelve month survey 96% or 48 of 50 participants who have completed the program have had a reduction, or no <br /> increase in school displinary referals. By post test at termination, 65% of youth served will demonstrate the following <br /> social skills: following instructions, accepting correction, asking permission and getting along with peers. 100% of <br /> youth served of participants have demonstrated the social skills. <br /> Priority Community Risk Factor(s) Addressed <br /> State how oriority risk factorrs) identified by the JCPC will be addressed. <br /> Project Challenge (PC) addresses the identified risk factors of Cabarrus County by offering pto-social role models, <br /> by giving some community service credit for tutoring to participants who are struggling academiclly. Participatiqn in <br /> PC increases youth's self-esteem and instills a sense of giving of self to others. PC aspires to decrease family <br /> conflict, distuption and management problems by teaching youth specific social skills. PC also addresses the <br /> impoverished states of neighborhoods and communities. <br /> Protective Factors Utilized (Ex. Healthy beliefs & clear standards, skills, opportunities, recognition) <br /> With the amount of time that we spend with our participants we are able to help them bond not only with their <br /> community but with us as well. By being someone that our participants are able to depend to be a positive influence <br /> we are able to establish a mentoring relationship.
