<br /> -- <br />"SECTION III (cont) I COMPONENT SUMMARY CONTINUED (attach for each component) <br />Areas of Concern Discuss any areas of concern that could affect success. <br />One concern is the variance in caseload from year to year due to the fact that 100% of our referrals come from <br />juvenile court. Funding is a concern due to the limited resoutces provided to local programs. Salaries remain meager <br />resulting in moderate turnover. Also, a ditect correlalion may be drawn between participant performance in <br />community service activities and program success. <br />Documentation List the data elements or records to be maintained: A) in confidential files to document <br />comoliance and B) to document each measurable objective. <br />Project Challenge maintains participant files, client- tracking forms, and community service and restitution records, <br />as well as school and court reiated info~mation to assure compliance with stated objectives. Project Challenge also <br />maintains recidivism records to track the progress of participants after completion of the program. <br /> . <br />Treatment Element Describe what the component will do to redirect inappropriate youth behavior or how the <br />component will impact inappropriate behavior. <br />Project Challenge incorporates lifeskills into most of our community service activites. Asking Permission, Accepting <br />Correction, Getting along with Peers, and Following Instructions ate the Iifeskills that we teach our participants. Each <br />of the Iifeskills have steps that help our participants deal with inappropriate behavoir on many ievels. By providing a <br />structu~ed supervised work enivorment we are able to show participants how to show respect for authority figures, <br />responsibility, accountability, and how to better get along with their peers. <br />"<~IV-A".>,['I COMPONENT NARRATIVE (attach for each component) <br />Component Narrative (attach for each component) -. <br />(1) Describe the physical facilities, including the address, in which the seNices will be delivered. If seNices are <br />delivered at multiple locations, please include information for all locations. <br />The facilities that are utilized vary with community service activities and include but are not limited to, food drives, <br />fire departments, nursing homes, parks and tee, and others. Project Challenge will strive to set up regular and <br />consistent CS sites such as those listed above. The wilderness trips take place in various areas within the state. The <br />office is located in the Cabarrus County Courthouse, PO Box 70, Concord, NC, 28026. . <br />(2) Identify paid or volunteer staff qualifications, (certifications, degrees, work experience) and their responsibilities <br />relative to this comoonent. <br />The staff of Cabarrus County consists of Mike Loftis, District Supervisor. His position carries a full caseload of 25 <br />participants. His responsibilities are; (a)the intake process, (b)developing, planning, scheduling, supervising <br />participant and volunteers. Verifying community service and restitution activities for youth involved in the program, <br />(c)end-of-month paperwork which includes recidivism tracking of past participants and client tracking, (d)attending <br />'uvenile court, (e) participation as a secondary guide on the wilderness trips, (f)transporting the participants when <br />necessary, (g)attending JCPC, interagency and other meetings that support the success of the childten served. In <br />addition, District Supervisors are responsible for personnel issues within the district and supporting the Program <br />Coordinator in the above tasks. <br /> - <br /> Page 4 of 10 <br /> ;:-+ <br />
