<br />tSEC:rlON <br />~~~~~~girli~~~~,'_~: COMPONENT SUMMARY lattach for each comoonentl <br />Statement of the Problem <br />In concise terminology, describe the juvenile justice problem(s) to address and how these services meet the needs or service <br />gaps identified in the JCPC Annual Plan. <br />The youth that come through the Cabarrus County Juvenile Justice Program usually suffer from various types of mental <br />health disabilities, are users of mind-altering substances, and/or have various debilitating family issues that contribute to their <br />delinquency. Family issues may include poor role modeling in the home which leads to the youth not being adequately <br />prepared to handle conflict, peer pressure and important self-worth issues. There is an increasing number of juvenile <br />violations in the area of juvenile sex offense in Cabarrus County and unless the problem is addressed and resolved during <br />adolescent years, the offender will continue offending into his or her adult years. <br />Tarnet Pooufation <br />Describe the taraet oooulation and steos taken to insure that the taraet population is served. <br />This program will serve clients that are in the age range of 7-17 years. ALPHA will also offer services to family membets if <br />needed. AU clients will be assessed and assigned a thetapist based on needed services. Once the referral is made, the <br />client will be assessed and a written report will be received by the court counselor within 48 hours. If additional Psycho- <br />Educational Assessment is required, a written full report wiU be issued withln 15 days. <br />Prooram Goal/sl State the effect this comf)Onent is designed to have on solvina the problem described abova <br />1. To protect victims by trying to keep the client from harming anyone else through his or her distorted thinking and self <br /> gratification behaviors; <br />2. To prevent client from harming his or her own self through distorted thinking and self-destructive behaviors; <br />3. T a help the client identify and correct thinking (cognitions}, which tend ta maintain feelings of anger andlor <br /> resentment that may lead to reoffending behaviors; <br />4. To help client recognize and identify maladaptive patterns of behavior and to develop alternate adaptive behavior <br /> patterns; <br />5. To help the client to accept responsibility and accountability for their actions and the consequences oftheit actions. <br />Measurable Objectivelsl <br />State in measurable tenns the intended effect on specific undisciplined and/or delinquent behaviors. Example: anticipated reductions in <br />court referrals, runaway behavior, disruptive behavior at school, anticipated improved school attendance and academic achievement. <br />These objectives must include participant outcomes and may include program outcomes. <br />1. We anticipate a 75% reduction in problem behavior <br /> a. We expect to see a major improvement in the school participation, grade improvement (for those capable}, <br /> and problem classroom behavior in 75% of those enrolled in the ALPHA program. <br /> b. We expect to see fewer family related problems in those enrolled in the ALPHA program <br />2. We anticipate an 80% reduction in subsequent court related issues. <br /> , <br />PriomVCommunitvRisk Factorlsl Addressed <br />State how nrioritv risk factor(sJ identified bv the JCPC will be addressed. <br />The risk factors identified are family managementproblems, famiiy conflict, disruption, parenting problems and early and <br />present behavior problems. This component will provide individual and group counseling for aU risk factors noted. In <br />addition, outpatient treatment will be provided to clients with this problem. Family counseling wilLbe made available to aU <br />family members in need of assistance. Inherent damaging family issues will be discussed with the family of the client with a <br />covenant established between the parent (family or legal guardian), the client and ALPHA as to the course of action including <br />all anticipated goals. Periodic follow up will be conducted between each member of the covenant of action to evaluate <br />oroaress and anv chanaes that need to be made. <br /> <br />F"-4- <br />
