COUNTYLINES
August 2005, Volume 31, No.8
N. C. Association of County Commissioners

Ketner winners reap rewards of innovation

The Association announced its 2004-
05 Ralph Ketner Employee Productivity
Award Program winners in July. Mr.
Ralph Ketner, co-founder of Food Lion,
Inc., donates $10,000 each year to
reward outstanding county employees for
their successful productivity initiatives.
Productivity enhancements improve
the efficiency of county programs, servic-
es and general administration.
Improvements are seen as achieving one
of the following: delivering the same level
of service at a less expensive cost, render~
ing a higher level of service at the same
cost, or avoiding future cost increases.

Ketner

This year marles the Association's
14th year in organizing the program. To
date, the program has attracted 1,164
project applications representing more
than $87 million in savings to our coun-
ties. Almost 50 entries were received for
the 2004-05 program.
NCACC President Breeden
Blackwell of Cumberland County
appointed two review committees made
up of commissioners, managers, county
staff and Institute of Government repre-
sentatives to consider all eligible
applications.
Please see Ketner on page 6

Continued from page I

The review committees - one for managerial staff and one for line (or non-exempt)
staff - met June 28 at the Albert Coates Local Government Center in Raleigh.
. .
