Be part of February- Celebrating Our Cultural Heritage Saturday, February 18,9 am to 4 p,* in Cannon Village enjoy a day long event recognizing the many communities and ethnicities ij1 Kannapolis. Taste food, learn dances, sing songs and hear stories from different countries. Additional events include the dedication of South Main Street for Ruth Coltrane Cannon and a Mayoral Ball. March- Celebrating Education Kannapolis City Schools and the Kannapolis Library will offer inter generational' activities in the schools to capture the history of Kaimapolis on tape and video. Elementary schools will 'also participate in a bookmark contest illustrating student's views of Kannapolis' people, pride and progt'ess. April- Celebrating Textile Heritage Saturday, April 8 in Village Park from 12 pm to 4 pm, the Southern Textile Initiative "Will host an afternoon offamily activities like soap making, washboard scrubbing and cotton combing to let families experience a day in the life of people 100 years ago. Get a commemorative "pony picture" of your children. Additional events include the 4th Annual Remernbering Dale Cool Car Cruise on Saturday, April 22 in Village Park. lVIay- Celebrating Faith and Churches Sunday, May 6 take a tour of church history rooms, and Sunday, May 7, enjoy a Church Choir Festival in Village Park. Additional events include the Cottonstock Arts and Crafts Festival on Saturday, May 13 and a Memorial Day Serville. June- The Boys of Summer Saturday, June 3, 2006, sponsored 1)y the Kannapolis Intimidators at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium, see the Intimidators as the Cannon Mills Towelers and their opponents as the Concord Weavers. Enjoy a book signing by baseball author Hank Utley and a baseball trading card show. c-~ July- Old Fashioned 4tb A weekend event Friday, June 30 to Saturday, July I in Village Park featuring old fashioned fair activities culminating in the annual Charlotte Symphony Patriotic concert and fireworks.. August- Celebrating Families Friday, August 4, the Centennial Steering Committee will host a Centurion Luncheon to recognize our older citizens. Kannapolis Parks and Recreation will host a Movie Night in Village Park. On Saturday, August 5 enjoy genealogy seminars in Village Park and an opportunity to get a free family portrait. September- Celebrating Community A day of community helping involving churches, civic organizations and community volunteers will be planned for Saturday, September 23. October- Celebrating Sports Celebrate the city's racing heritage and love of high school football. A Tour of Homes and places of interest will expand beyond the mill village into new areas ofKannapolis November- Bridging to the Future Sunday, November 12, 2 - 4 pm in Cannon Village attend the closing cerernonies that will include a tree sapling giveaway, refreshments, birthday cake and closing of a time capsule.
