Be part of <br /> <br />February- Celebrating Our Cultural Heritage <br />Saturday, February 18,9 am to 4 p,* in Cannon <br />Village enjoy a day long event recognizing the <br />many communities and ethnicities ij1 Kannapolis. <br />Taste food, learn dances, sing songs and hear stories <br />from different countries. Additional events include <br />the dedication of South Main Street for Ruth <br />Coltrane Cannon and a Mayoral Ball. <br /> <br />March- Celebrating Education <br />Kannapolis City Schools and the Kannapolis <br />Library will offer inter generational' activities in the <br />schools to capture the history of Kaimapolis on tape <br />and video. Elementary schools will 'also participate <br />in a bookmark contest illustrating student's views of <br />Kannapolis' people, pride and progt'ess. <br /> <br />April- Celebrating Textile Heritage <br />Saturday, April 8 in Village Park from 12 pm to 4 <br />pm, the Southern Textile Initiative "Will host an <br />afternoon offamily activities like soap making, <br />washboard scrubbing and cotton combing to let <br />families experience a day in the life of people 100 <br />years ago. Get a commemorative "pony picture" of <br />your children. Additional events include the 4th <br />Annual Remernbering Dale Cool Car Cruise on <br />Saturday, April 22 in Village Park. <br /> <br />lVIay- Celebrating Faith and Churches <br />Sunday, May 6 take a tour of church history rooms, <br />and Sunday, May 7, enjoy a Church Choir Festival <br />in Village Park. Additional events include the <br />Cottonstock Arts and Crafts Festival on Saturday, <br />May 13 and a Memorial Day Serville. <br /> <br />June- The Boys of Summer <br />Saturday, June 3, 2006, sponsored 1)y the <br />Kannapolis Intimidators at Fieldcrest Cannon <br />Stadium, see the Intimidators as the Cannon Mills <br />Towelers and their opponents as the Concord <br />Weavers. Enjoy a book signing by baseball author <br />Hank Utley and a baseball trading card show. <br /> <br />c-~ <br /> <br />July- Old Fashioned 4tb <br />A weekend event Friday, June 30 to Saturday, July <br />I in Village Park featuring old fashioned fair <br />activities culminating in the annual Charlotte <br />Symphony Patriotic concert and fireworks.. <br /> <br />August- Celebrating Families <br />Friday, August 4, the Centennial Steering <br />Committee will host a Centurion Luncheon to <br />recognize our older citizens. Kannapolis Parks and <br />Recreation will host a Movie Night in Village Park. <br />On Saturday, August 5 enjoy genealogy seminars in <br />Village Park and an opportunity to get a free family <br />portrait. <br /> <br />September- Celebrating Community <br />A day of community helping involving churches, <br />civic organizations and community volunteers will <br />be planned for Saturday, September 23. <br /> <br />October- Celebrating Sports <br />Celebrate the city's racing heritage and love of high <br />school football. A Tour of Homes and places of <br />interest will expand beyond the mill village into <br />new areas ofKannapolis <br /> <br />November- Bridging to the Future <br />Sunday, November 12, 2 - 4 pm in Cannon Village <br />attend the closing cerernonies that will include a <br />tree sapling giveaway, refreshments, birthday cake <br />and closing of a time capsule. <br /> <br />Ongoing activities throughout 2006: <br />. Pictures in the Attic- an opportunity to bring <br />photos and memorabilia to donate to the <br />Kannapolis Library History Room. <br />. A Centennial mural for the train station. <br />. Collection of items for a time capsule. <br />.
