Presentation to the Cabarrus Coun _ty Commission
Dr. Richard Brownell, President
Rowan-Cabarrus Communi _ty College
Tuesday, January_ 13, 2004

~ntroductio~
We appreciate the opportunity of appearing before you to present the
support your community college needs to serve Cabarms County citizens.

With me tonight are Chairman of the Board Ray Paradowski, Vice
Chairman Irvin Newberry, Trustee Wayne Troutman, as well as Vice
Presidents Jerry Chandler and Ann Hovey and Tim Foley. Tim will assist
me in this presentation and present charts showing facts and figures.

~Fhe Community College Role in Economic Recover~
Weighing heavily on all our minds tonight is the economic future and
viability of our region and our citizens. You have the difficult task of
hearing from many agencies with burgeoning needs at the very time when
resources are increasingly scarce. Your decisions will affect the future
economic prospects of the region. Allocation of funds must be tied to
generating jobs in order for citizens to have more income and the county to
have increased revenue.

The single most important part of an economic recovery strategy is
investment in the education of our current labor force. Your community
college is the only public educational institution in Cabarrus County that
trains and upgrades skills of the working age population.
