DIRECTOR OF SPORTS MARKETING JOB DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW: Market Cabarms County for the purposes of · Attracting sporting events and sports-related meetings that generate economic development by filling hotels and generating business for restaurants and other retail outlets; and · Increasing awareness of Cabarrus County as a sports hub and visitor destination. RESPONSIBILITIES: · Develop and produce an annual marketing plan and budget. · Design corporate sponsorship program for sports marketing program, set goals for selling sponsorships and work with sports marketing sponsorship committee to identify prospects and sell sponsorships to meet goals. · Determine which of the hundreds of potential sporting events, tournaments and championships are best suited for Cabarms County. · Focus on annual high priority list of most-wanted sporting events for Cabarrus County. · Work closely with area hotels, venues, facilities and community leaders (Sports Bid Committee) to prepare bid proposals for selected events, tournaments and championships. · Develop qualified sales leads for the hotels to pursue, and track status of those leads on an ongoing basis. · Per the marketing plan, make periodic new sales calls to identify and cultivate potential sports business. · Handle targeted sports markets and serve as the Commission's chief liaison to those markets (i.e., AAU, NSA, Teams, etc.) · Coordinate and conduct site inspections of the Cabarms County area with event rights- holders who represent definite potential for sports business. · Establish and/or strengthen relationships with area school districts and venues and local officials whose organizations are involved in the sports market. · Take a leadership role in coordinating the efforts of Cabarrus County organizations that pursue sports business. · Establish strong relationships (and for Cabarrus County - a strong reputation) with key officials and decision makers of regional and national sports organizations, leagues, conferences and associations. · Makes sales calls to key national governing bodies, federations or other sports organizations, as required. · Attend sports-related trade shows and meetings to promote Cabarrus County to the sports market. Prepare summaries of results from those trade shows to justify time and expense. · Travel as necessary to make presentations to site selection committees. · Work closely with all area venues, and build relationships with venue officials. · Work closely with are hotels that are interested in pursuing sports business. · Assist with operations and management of booked sporting events, as needed. They may include serving on host committees (or steering committees), as well as assisting with housing arrangements, marketing, public relations, transportation or logistics.
