CABARRUS COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> <br /> COUNTY GOVERNMENT WEEK <br /> April 18 - 24, 2004 <br /> <br /> PROCLAMATION <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, county government is one of the oldest forms of local government in the <br />United States; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, counties have a long history of providing critical services to meet the needs <br />of the public, including such programs as child and elder care, social services, public safety, <br />planning, parks and recreation, transportation, emergency medical services and law enforcement; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, counties serve as major partners in the public education system, <br />contributing funding to elementary and secondary schools as well as community colleges; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, counties provide many services that make America's communities stronger, <br />safer places to live and raise families; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, county officials and employees use their role as local leaders to encourage <br />economic development and therefore improve the lives of their citizens and make their <br />communities more livable; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, county governments are the citizen's local government voice, providing <br />solutions that bring communities together. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, in recognition of the leadership, innovation and valuable service <br />provided by our nation's counties, the Cabarms County Board of Commissioners hereby <br />proclaims April 18-24, 2004 as <br /> <br />National County Government Week in Cabarrus County <br /> <br />and urges all citizens to be more involved in and aware of issues affecting County government. <br /> <br />This the 15th day of March 2004. <br /> <br />Robert M.
