Freeman, Chairman <br /> Board of Commissioners <br /> <br />(6-4) Waiver Request of Penalties ($1,194.17) for Hampton Inn, Weddin~ton <br /> <br />Road, Concord <br /> <br /> Pamela S Dubols, Finance Director, reported the management of Hampton <br />Inn (a division of HP Hotels, Inc.) has requested a waiver of penalties for <br />failure to pay the occupancy taxes in a timely manner The penalties exceed <br />the $400.00 limit for which the Finance Director may issue a waiver. County <br />practice has been to forgive the penalties the first time the occupancy tax <br />report is filed late and this is HP Hotels' first time being late <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Privette, seconded by Co~m~issioner Carruth <br />and unanimously carried, the Board waived the penalties ($1,194.17) for <br />Hampton Inn (Weddington Road, Concord), a division of HP Hotels, Inc., for <br />failure to pay the OCCupancy taxes in a timely manner. <br /> <br />(G-5) Purchase of Furr Family Property for Turninq Lanes on Pitts School Road <br /> <br /> Ms. Dubols reported the Board of Education approved the purchase of <br />land for turning lanes on Pitts School Road for the new elementary school on <br />February 9, 2004. The land will be purchased from the Furr family at a cost <br />of $28,000.00 with funding from the COPS III financing. <br /> <br /> DI:ON MOTION of Co~nissioner Prlvette, seconded by Commissioner <br />Carpenter and unanimously carried, the Board approved the acquisition of <br />property by the Cabarrus County Board of Education from the Furr family for <br />turning lanes on Pitt School Road at a cost of $28,000.00 <br /> <br />(6-6) Request for a Joint Meetinq with the Harrisburg Town Council <br /> <br /> Commissioner Carpenter reported the Town of Harrisburg has requested an <br />opportunity to provide Input into the development of a transitional zoning <br />plan in the unincorporated areas on the East and South sides of Harrisburg. <br />She asked that a 3olnt meeting be scheduled with the Harrisburg Town Council <br />to d~scuss this matter and other issues. <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Prlvette, seconded by Commissioner <br />Carpenter and unanimously carried, the Board directed the County Manager to <br />provide potential meeting dates with the Harrisburg To~n Council. The meeting <br />is to be held at the Harrisburg Town Hall. <br /> <br /> Jonathan Marshall, Commerce Director, briefly reviewed the draft policy <br />that the City of Concord and Cabarrus County are working on in regards to <br />development standards within the City's defined growth area. He stated the <br />Town of Harrisburg has expressed interest in the County reducing permitted <br />densities in areas around Harrisburg. <br /> <br />(H) APPOINTMIi%TTS TO BOARDS A.ND COMMITTEES <br /> <br />There were no appointments to be considered. <br /> <br />(I) REPORTS <br /> <br />(I-1) Vacant Position Report <br /> <br /> The Vacant Position Status Report (Effective 3/2/04) as submitted by <br />Don Cummaings, Human Resources Director, was included as a part of the Agenda <br /> <br />(I-2) Cabarrus County Justice Facilities Pro~ect Update <br /> <br /> Mr Day reported that an open house was held March 9=h and public <br />comments received regarding the proposed site for the new Jail/Justice <br />Center He stated that Sheriff Riley is obtaining information regarding the <br />portable detention units that were discussed on March 8 as a stop-gap measure <br />to relieve overcrowding in the Jail. <br /> <br /> <br />
