came out of that review. Possibly as a result, there is improved inter-county
DSS communication.
The Cabarms County CFPT continues to work closely with the Cabarrus
County CCPT. Many members are on both teams, and represent diverse
agencies throughout the community. Members continue to bring issues to the
table that will ultimately make Cabarrus County a safer place for children.
Partly because of the work of these two teams, the Children's Advocacy
Center at NEMC has developed a protocol for first responders to follow when
a child death occurs.

IV. Conclusion

Lastly, it needs to be brought up that both the CFPT and the CCPT continue to
encounter the same issues when dealing with families. They are substance abuse and
domestic violence, as well as un- safe sleeping/riding for children. Our county offers
car seat checks as well as car seats at little or no cost. Yet it is still continuously
noted that children are seen not in car seats, or are in car seats incorrectly. Substance
abuse and domestic violence appear to go hand-in-hand, and is an ever- growing ~ssue
in our community. Unfortunately, when we see the result of these behaviors on
children, it's too little too late.

I hope this report has helped you to understand what we are facing with regards to the
children of Cabarrus County.

Resp/~l~y submitS, ~ '
Cabarms County CFPT Chair

/sk
