A total of 125 afterschool children will be accepted at three different sites. The programs <br />are open to any child regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, or disability. All centers are <br />equipped and prepared to provide care for any special needs child. <br /> <br /> Each day children will enjoy enrichment activities where they will enjoy "hands-on" <br />learning including science, self-esteem, diversity, dramatic arts, photography and foods and <br />nutrition. Children will experience many new life skills during their afterschool time. By having <br />choice centers, enrichment, outdoor playtime, field trips, and cooperative games. Children will <br />learn teamwork, problem solving, cooperation, sharing, communication, organizational skills, <br />and self-motivational skills. 4-H clubs will also be a major part of their programs. All three <br />work with and will continue to work with children that are limited resource, ethnically diverse, <br />and have special needs. These grant funds will serve at least 90 different families. <br /> <br /> Collaboration from many different agencies will be beneficial during this grant. Sites <br />will work with The Division of Child Development, ChildCare Resources (training and <br />consultations), YMCA programs (swimming and recreational activities), local library, and NC <br />Cooperative Extension Service (technical support, resources and training). <br /> <br /> PROGRAM SUSTAINABILITY <br /> <br /> Bethel Kids:Plus, Harrisburg Kids:Plus and Kids Next Door will all continue after funds <br />are expended. All sites have been in business for. many years and are well established in the <br />community and are known for their quality afterschool care. <br /> <br /> The Cabarrus County School system is very supportive of the Kids:Plus programs. The <br />school system very much wants to continue to grow and expand the afterschool programs. <br /> <br />5 <br /> <br /> <br />
