<br /> <br />· The CVB provided sponsorship for the Monster Truck Bash held at Lowe's Motor <br />Speedway. Part of the sponsorship package inclUded a banner on the Lowe's Motor <br />Speedway website and the CVB is now receiving a significant number of website hits from <br />this promotion. <br /> <br />Doug Stafford updated the board on the events being planned for the area prior to the Nextel All <br />Star Challenge to be held in May of next year. He stated Cabarrus County and the surrounding <br />communities are working together to make these events a success. <br /> <br />Ann Sternal invited all board members. to attend the NC Motorsports Association 2nd Annual <br />Membership Meeting to be held in Mooresville on October 5, 2004. <br /> <br />Committee Reports <br />Sharon Campbell reported the grants committee met and has made the following <br />recommendations: <br /> <br />Carolina Eagles - denied per grant guidelines. After discussion, a motion to deny was made by <br />John Cox with a second by Robert Freeman. Motion carried. <br /> <br />National Security Associates, Inc. -$9,000 per grant guidelines. After discussion, a motion to <br />accept was made by Diane Honeycutt with a second by Robert Freeman. Motion carried. <br /> <br />North Carolina Athletic Association - $10,000 per grant guidelines. After discussion, a motion to <br />accept was made by Doug Stafford with a second by Diane Honeycutt. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Roger Haas reported the facilities committe.e has presented a draft of the new lease to the <br />Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce and their attorney is making finar.changes, The CVB <br />will continue on a month to month lease until said changes are made and approved. He hopes to <br />have the final draft available for the next board meeting. <br /> <br />Diane Honeycutt reported the search committee is scheduled to meet on the morning of October <br />11 with three finalists for the position of Sports Marketing Manager. Roger Haas extended an <br />invitation to the board to attend. <br /> <br />Doug Stafford presented the board with a brief history of the Cabarrus Regional Partnership, the <br />changes to the Economic Development Corporation, the role of the Cabarrus Regional Chamber <br />of Commerce within the Economic Development Corporation and how he feels the Tourism <br />Authority can contribute to economic development in Cabarrus County. He then presented the <br />board with a "Recommendation for Cabarrus County Tourism Authority Support of the Cabarrus <br />County Economic Development Initiative" (see attachment.) After discussion, a motion to accept <br />the recommendation as presented was made by Robert Freeman with a second by Diane <br />Honeycutt. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Mike Downs, Cabarrus County Deputy Manager presented the board with estimates for a <br />basketball floor, goals and scoreboards for the Cabarrus Arena and Events Center costing <br />approximately $106,000, including freight and installation charges. After discussion by the board, <br />a motion to contribute $92,000 from the Tourism Authority fund balance towards the purchase of <br />the equipment, with the county being responsible for the delivery and installation of said <br />equipment, was made by John Cox with a second by Doug Stafford.
