Many greenways follow streams and floodplains and therefore are <br />eligible for funding dedicate to water quality protection. The trail system also will <br />provide natural habitat corridors and will serve as a popular recreational area <br />making it open for other funding sources. Federal transportation funds are also <br />available for greenway ~;onstruction through the TEA-21 legislation that promotes <br />alternate transportatior~ (walking, biking trails, mass transit depots, etc.) <br /> <br />Private foundations and businesses are also interested in implementation of <br />regional open space preservation projects. The fact that this project will be bi- <br />state will attract funding from these sources at a national level. <br /> <br /> <br />
