Cabarrus County Tourism Authority Page 2 of 3

track the trend in the industry. She also mentioned the CVB is monitoring the economic impact on the
community from AAU and other special events. It was mentioned that May 6-10 is National Tourism
week. The CVB will participate in a trade show for the event being held at Concord Mills, Libba
Barrineau and John Dysart will use the CYB trailer to welcome travelers at 1-85 South and 1-77 South
welcome centers and the CYB will host a photo contest to stimulate community awareness during this
time.

Libba Barrineau reported the National Cushman Club will hold a meeting with 1000 attendees in the
month of June. She also mentioned Cabarrus County has made the first cut for the American Legion
World Series to be held in 2005. The final cut will be in May. This event would bring 1000 room nights
if it comes to Cabarrus County and the games would be played in Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.

Linda Collins attended the IACVB Annual Shirtsleeves conference. This conference covered all
aspects of operating a visitor center. She will put together a detailed study on our visitor center to
present at a later meeting.

Judy Root is in the process of putting together a meeting planners publication.

~)LD BUSINESS
Aubie Cook reported the Intern program with Barber Scotia, for the most part, was a success. There
were some problems due to the interns having a conflict of schedules. After discussion the board
decided the Tourism Authority would discontinue the program for the next fiscal year. Aubie Cook will
notify Barber Scotia. Libba Barrineau said the CVB would still provide the service of placing qualified
students in positions with interested hotels.

NEW BUSINESS

Ann Sternal presented a memo from Maurice Ewing of Cabarrus County Economic Development
Corporation stating the details of a proposed water park project for Mecklenburg County. The memo
explained the parties interested, the background of the project, sites proposed, the financing and
contact parties. The memo also stated the parties would be interested in talking to anyone in Cabarrus
County that might be interested in the project. Because a project of this size would require significant
local financial commitments, it was decided by the board to send a letter of support for this project to
Cabarrus County, the city of Concord and Maurice Ewing of Cabarrus Economic Development
Corporation.

Joe Phelps and Ann Sternal presented the proposed budget with revenue projections for fiscal year
2002-03 for approval. A motion to accept the budget as presented was made by John Cox with a
second by Sam Farina. Motion carried.

Libba Barrineau presented proofs of new logo designs prepared by Sam Bass for the CVB to be
considered by the board. She stated that she has worked out a trade with advertising to pay for the
design work. Ann said the cost to change over existing collateral would cost somewhere between
$5000 and $10,000. After discussion the board agreed to the new slogan "The racing side of
Charlotte". Libba will have the proof changed and will then present it to the board and community
leaders for final consideration.

Ann Sternal requested the Tourism Authority approve a request from the Arts Council to help fund the
Charlotte Symphony performances held in the county and city parks this summer. The Arts Council
requested $5000. After discussion a motion to contribute $3000 was made by Sam Farina with a
second by Aubie Cook. Motion carried. The funds will be taken from the overage in the marketing and
advertising accounts. Aubie Cook requested brochures or flyers on the events be placed in the hotels.

ADJOURN

2/12/2003
