<br /> There was brief discussion regarding the Smallpox Vaccination Plan. Dr.
<br />Pilkington and M*. Stanley responded to a number of questions by the Board
<br />concerning the P~an, the seriousness of the disease and local funding that
<br />would be required to supplement the Federal and State funding in the event of
<br />a smallpox emergency.

<br /> Mr. Don C~mmings, Human Resources Director, presented the proposed
<br />reclassifications to support the restructuring of the management area at =he
<br />Department of Social Services. He stated thac restructuring began a year ago
<br />when staff was reduced and duties reassigned to other management staff.
<br />
<br /> CommissionsF Privet=e, member of the Social Services Board, commented
<br />on the reorganiz~_- tion of the Department, including the deletion of eight
<br />supervisory pos~tions, transfer of responsibilities to three program
<br />administrators an~ the projected savings of over $3,000.00 to the County. The
<br />Social Services B~ard concurred with the requested changes on January 28.

<br /> UPON MOTI(~ of Co~m~issioner Privet=e, seconded by Co~issioner
<br />Carpenter and ~nanimously carried, the Board approved the following
<br />reclassifications~ (and adjustment of the Job Classification Schedule as
<br />necessary) of th~ following positions effective December 2002 to support the
<br />restructuring at ~he Department of Social Services.

<br /> Mr. Jim Coo~, Social Services Director, presented the proposal~ to add
<br />two new Income Maintenance Caseworker positions. He stated the new positions
<br />were needed to h~lp with the substantial increase in the caseload over the
<br />last 18 months. ~ederal funding will provide 90 percent of the funding for
<br />these two new positions.

<br /> UPON MOTIO~ of Commissioner Privet=e, seconded by Commissioner
<br />Carpenter and u~b~nimouely carried, the Board authorized two new Income
<br />Maintenance Case~%orker positions at the Department of Social Services
<br />effective February 17, 2003, and adopted the following budget amendment
<br />appropriating fun~ for the new positions.
