following letter of support for the City of Concord's TEA-21 application for <br />Derita Road. <br /> <br />Dear Mayor Padgett: <br /> <br /> The purpose of this letter is to indicate the Cabarrus County <br /> Board of Commissioners support for Concord's TEA-21 application <br /> for Congressional funding of improvements to Derita Road between <br /> Poplar Tent Road and the Cabarrus/Mecklenburg County line. As <br /> with other letters of support, the Board's support is made with a <br />· request that' the funding of this project does not have a negative <br /> effect on the State's Equity Formula for funding of other <br /> transportation projects. <br /> <br />Sincerely, <br />Robert M. Freeman <br />Chairman, Board of Commissioners <br /> <br />(E-5) Approval of Architectural Contract (Amendment) with Orkan Architecture <br /> <br />for School/Park Facilitles at New Kannapolis Middle School and Agreement to <br /> <br />Advance Fund Architectural Fees ($44,000) <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carruth, seconded by Commissioner <br />Carpenter and unanimously carried, the Board approved the contract <br />(amendment) with Orkan Architecture Professional Association for design <br />services for the school/park facility at the new Kannapolis Middle School <br />site at a cost of $44,000.00. Further, the Board agreed to advance fund the <br />architecture fees with the County to be reimbursed at the time the <br />Certificates of Participation are sold. <br /> <br />(E-6) Proclamation - County ~overnment Week (April 8 - 12, 2003) <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carruth, seconded by Commissioner Carpenter <br />and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following Proclamation. <br /> <br />NATIONAL COUNTY GOVERI~MENT WEEK <br />April 6 - 12, 2003 <br /> Counties Care for Kids <br /> PROCI~%MATION <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, counties provide critical services to the children and <br />families that live in our great country; and <br /> <br /> WHERF21S, counties provide medical services, public safety, and <br />educational development and also provide immunizations to keep kids healthy, <br />planning to keep parks safe places to play, and clean environments and <br />livable communities in which to grow; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, counties provide needed elderly services for grandmothers and <br />grandfathers and healthcare to the disabled and the needy; and <br /> <br /> WHEREA~, when natural or man-made disaster strikes, county emergency <br />services keep children and their families safe and informed until order can <br />be restored; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, counties provide many services that make America's communities <br />stronger, safer places to live and raise families; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, County officials and employees use their role as local leaders <br />to encourage better children's health, increase early childhood development <br />and promote safe and effective parenting strategies; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, counties have a long history of caring and providing for the <br />nation's children and county governments are the citizen's local government <br />voice, providing solutions that bring communities together; and <br /> <br /> NOW, T~EREFORE, in recognition of the leadership, innovation and <br />valuable .service provided by our nation's counties, the Cabarrus County Board <br />of Commissioners hereby proclaims April 6-12, 2003 as National ~ou.nty <br />Government Week in Cabarrus County and urges all citizens to be more involved <br /> <br />in and aware of issues affecting County government. <br /> <br />Adopted this 17=~ ~ay of March, 2003. <br /> <br /> <br />
