e. In the event of an emergency involving the McGuire Nuclear Plant, the <br />existing response procedures will remain in effect. The Emergency Management <br />Coordinator will serve as the principal contact for emergency notification of incidents <br />involving the McGuire Nuclear Plant and inform appropriate local officials. The <br />Emergency Management Coordinator maintains contact with the Western Branch Office <br />during a Fixed Nuclear Facility Incident. He will activate the Emergency Operations <br />Center should the incident escalate to a Site Area or General Emergency. <br /> <br />4. Public Information Officer <br /> <br /> a. Prepare procedures to keep local citizens informed during emergency <br />situations. Include the use of the Emergency Alerting System (EAS) in these <br />preparations. <br /> <br /> b. Maintain a current inventory of public information resources. Establish and <br />maintain a working relationship with the local media. <br /> <br /> c. Provide emergency information materials for the public including the <br />heating- impaired and non-English speaking groups. <br /> <br /> d. Coordinate all media releases pertaining to emergency planning and <br />operations with the Emergency Management Coordinator. Clear all information with <br />appropriate agencies before release to the media. Authenticate and verify all sources of <br />information received before release. <br /> <br /> e. Develop a system for public rumor control. Establish a phone bank to <br />provide emergency information, contacts for missing relatives, information on restricted <br />areas and locations for emergency shelter and care. '~ <br /> <br />f. Develop media advisories for the public as required by the situation. <br /> <br /> g. In the event of a Fixed Nuclear Facility incident, maintain contact with the <br />Joint Information Center (JIC) to obtain information for news releases. All other PIO <br />procedures will remain in effect. <br /> <br />h. Report to the EOC upon activation. <br /> <br /> 5. Cabarrus County Sheriff <br /> <br /> a.
