Five providers were contacted and three <br />submitted proposals for consideration. The proposal from Cigna, the current <br />provider, was recommended as the most cost effective with an increase of 44.1 <br />percent over the current year. The other quotes for comparable benefits were <br />47.4 percent and 57.9 percent. <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Privette, seconded by Vice Chairman Suggs <br />and unanimously carried, the Board authorized staff to proceed with the Cigna <br />renewal for employee health insurance for the period July 1, 2003 through <br />June 30, 2004. <br /> <br />(E-15) Proclamation - Emergency Medical Services Week (May 18 - 24, 2003) <br /> <br /> U~ON MOTION of Commissioner Privette, seconded by Vice Chairman Suggs <br />and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following Proclamation. <br /> <br />PROCLAMATION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, emergency medical services is a vital public service; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />the members of emergency medical services teams are ready to <br />provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven <br />days a week; and <br /> <br />access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the <br />survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness <br />or injury; and <br /> <br />emergency medical services teams consist of emergency physicians, <br />emergency nurses, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, <br />firefighters, educators, administrators, and others; and <br />approximately two-thirds of all emergency medical services <br />providers are volunteers; and <br /> <br />the members of emergency medical services teams, whether career <br />or volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of specialized <br />training and continuing education enhance their lifesaving <br />skills; and <br /> <br />Americans benefit daily from the knowledge and skills of these <br />highly trained individuals; and <br /> <br />it is appropriate to recognize the value and the accomplishments <br />of emergency medical services providers by designating Emergency <br />Medical Services Week; and <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we, the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners, in recognition of this event do hereby proclaim the week of <br />May 18 - 24, 2003, as <br /> <br />CABkRRUS COUNTY EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK <br /> <br />This 21'= day of April, 2003. <br /> <br /> <br />
