PURPOSE i <br /> This annex proviZ, es information on employment of emergency medical services during <br />emergency situation~ <br />II. SITUATION AN~ ASSUMPTIONS <br /> A. Situation <br /> <br /> 1. Emergency situations can endanger the health and safety of citizens and <br />emergency responded. <br /> <br /> 2. A well-plax ned medical services support network is essential during emerge~ncy <br />situations. <br /> <br /> B. Assumptions <br /> <br /> 1. A large-sca e emergency may increase demands on hospitals, medical facilities, <br />and emergency medidal transport services. <br /> <br /> 2. Emergency]Medmal Services (EMS) personnel will be trained to respond to a <br />variety of injuries an~ other medical problems. <br /> 3. Many injuries, both minor and relatively severe, will be self-treated by the public. <br /> <br /> 4. People oth.~' than medical personnel will transport many casualties to medical <br />facilities. <br /> <br /> 5. The EMS ~edical response is most critical within the first thirty minutes of an <br />emergency. Mutual ~d assistance usually arrives after this critical period. <br /> 6. The county ~MS director will coordinate for additional resources through mutual <br />aid agreements with ~ea and regional medical services. <br /> 7. When loc4 resources can no longer meet the demand of the situation, the <br />Emergency Managen~ent Coordinator will contact State agencies to provide additional <br />resources. <br /> <br /> 8. A widespread disaster may affect large areas of the County and disrupt EMS <br />support.
