MEMO1L ,NDUM OF UNDERSTANDING ~ IN SUPPORT OF A THREE-COUNTY REGIONAL GREENWAY SYSTEM BETWEEN ROWAN COUNTYi CABARRUS COUNTY, DAVIDSON COUNTY, CITY OF SALISBURY, TOWN OF CHINA GROVE, TOWN OF LANDIS, TOWN OF SPENCER, CITY OF KANNAPOLIS This Memorandum of Understanding is made and entered into this. day of ,2003, by and ~etween Rowan County, Cabarms County, Davidson County, City of Salisbury, Town or, China Grove, Town of Landis, Town of Spencer and the City of Kannapolis (hereinafter ~tll these local governments will be referred to as the "Communities"). ! WITNESSETH THAT: WHEREAS, these "Corem mities" do hereby acknowledge their support of a three- county regional greenway s ~stem; and WHEREAS, these "Corem tmities" do recognize the importance of a greenway system, which will provide a conne ition through open spaces, habitats, trails, parks, nature reserves, cultural and histo: sites for the purpose of recreation and conservation to all of their citizens; and WHEREAS, the developr~ tt of a connected greenway infrastructure will create opportunities for mutual an¢ shared environmental awareness and appreciation by the citizens of these "Communi' ies;" and WHEREAS, the developm~nt of a connected greenway system will provide citizens with opportunities for further int~ ~'action, unity and harmony within these "Communities;" and ! WHEREAS, the developm ,~nt of a three-county greenway system will offer an alternative transportation venue to ben,fit not only for the citizens of these "Communities," but other areas as well; and WHEREAS, through this r~gional endeavor these "Communities" will have the added benefit and rewards ofwork~g together to achieve a common goal. NOW, THEREFORE BE ~T RESOLVED, that these "Communities" will support a collaborative effort to expan~[i and enhance their regional natural landscape through a three-county regional green~ay system.
