May 19, 2003 D AFT Page 128 ~IPON MOTION of Commissioner Privette, seconded by Commissioner Carruth and unanimously carried, the Board set a public hearing on the proposed FY 2003-04 Cabarrus County Budget at 6.30 p.m. (or as soon thereafter as persons may be heard) on June 16, 2003 in the Commissioners' Meeting Room. Chairman Freeman invited the public to attend the budget work sessions scheduled on May 20, May 27 and May 29. Each meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room at the Governmental Center (F-7) Pro~ect CARES Commissioner Carpenter presented information regarding the CARES (C__abarrus R__espect and ~upport) Committee that has been established to facilitate community support and assistance for military personnel and families. The Committee, in coordination with the Red Cross, churches and other existing agencies, will aid the community in addressing the unmet needs of military families and personnel. The Committee will identify military families and their needs, identify and then coordinate businesses and Individuals willing to provide their time and talents to meet those needs Military families needing assistance are asked to contact Karen Long at the Red Cross with businesses/individuals offering assistance to contact Ann Cannon. Finally, Commissioner Carpenter expressed appreciation to the National Guard members (and their families) of the 1454 Transportation Company currently serving in Irag. She stated special homecoming activities would be held when the National Guard personnel return home. (G) ~tPPOIIg~ENTS TO BO;iRES AiTD COMMITTEES (G-l) Adult Care Home Co~unity Advisor}, Committee UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carpenter, seconded by Chairman Freeman and unanimously carried, the Board reappointed Melzie Hartsell to the Adult Care Home Community Advisory Committee for a term of three years ending May 31, 2006. ~ (G-2) Fire Protection District Co~mu~ssioners UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carpenter, seconded by Commissioner Carruth and unanimously carried, the Board appointed the following persons as Fire Protection District Commissioners as recommended by their respective fire departments for terms of two years ending March 31, 2005. Mitchell: Jim Mann; Doyle Bost; James Simmons Northeast Cabarrus: Richard Earnhardt; Jay Culp; Roy Coley Odell: Bernard Smith; Harvey Morris; Jake Williams Rimer: Alvin Moser; Ronnie Boger; Daron Buckwell (G-3) Criminal Justice Partnership Program Advisor~ Board The terms of appointment for Sheriff Brad Riley, Concord Police Chief Met1 Hamilton, Dorsey Ward, Dana Nance, Teresa Rettinger and Toni Shope as members of the Criminal Justice Partnership Program (CJPP) Advisory Board ended April 30. The CJPP Advisory Board submitted the following recommendations: (1) Reappoint all members with the exception of Ms. Shope (Community Based Corrections) who resides outside Cabarrus County; (2) Leave the Community Based Corrections seat vacant at this time; and (3) Add another at-large seat and appoint Nicola Davis Blvens to the at-large seat. UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carruth, seconded by Commissioner Carpenter and unanimously carried, the Board reappointed Brad Riley (Sheriff), Merl Hamilton (Chief of Police), Dorsey Ward {Mental Health), Dana Nance (Probation Officer) and Teresa Rettinger (Probation Officer) to the Criminal Justice Partnership Advisory Board for terms of three years ending April 30, 2006 with the Community Based Correct~ons position to remain open at this time. Further, the Board created a new at-large position and appointed Nicola Davis Bivens to that position for a term of three years ending April 30, 2006.
