Page -2-

Item#2- Midway - Additional paving needed
Cost- $7,219.00
Explanation- Engineer left an area (approximately 20 x 50) at the rear of Gold Hall
designated to be a landscaped area. This area is surrounded by pavement and is isolated
from any other landscaped areas.
Consequences of not paving- Pedestrian flows will be disrupted and future maintenance
of landscaping materials will be needed.

Item #3 - (3) Additional Midway Service Connections
Cost- $39,219.57
Explanation- Additional service connections are needed in the area that will be housing
our food/craft vendors not related to the carnival. They were not included in the original
plans because of miscommunications between the county staff and the engineers relating
to the high concentration of vendors and their needs in this area.
Consequences of not adding- several generators will have to be rented to accommodate
the number of food vendors akeady committed to be at the fair.

Item #4 - Gray water storage
Cost- $18,000.00
Explanation- the gray water from the lower end of the midway area will have to be
pumped to the rear of the midway at a cost of approximately $70,000.00 or another
alternative will have to be found. The proposed alternative will allow for the storage of
this gray water at the above cost. The water will then have to be removed from the
storage area by truck. The proposed storage facility will permit the placement of a pump
at a later date if needed. This was not included in the original bid because the engineer
was waiting on comments from the North Carolina Department of Environmental Health
concerning their requirements for pump sizes.
Consequences of not adding storage- a pump station will have to be purchased
($70,000.00) in order to pump the material across the midway to a gravity line or the
lower end of the midway will not be able to use the sewer lines.

The project is progressing on schedule at this time. With the approval of these changes
tonight, all projected projects will be complete and in service for the upcoming fair.
