DRAFT <br /> WHEREAS, Congressman Hayes has sought to retain and expand local <br />textile jobs within the Cabarrus region by advocating for more equitable <br />trade regulations; and <br /> WHEREAS, the President of the United States, George W. Bush, agreed tl <br />correct the Trade and Development Act of 2001 so as to require that U.S. knit <br />and woven fabrics be required to undergo all dyeing, finishing, and printing <br />.procedures in the United States in order to qualify for the benefits under <br />the Caribbean Basin Trade Partnership Act; and <br /> WHEREAS, the President assured Congressman Hayes that he would work to <br />broaden the U.S. textile market, and protect that market in future textile <br />agreements; and <br /> WHEREAS, Congressman Hayes cast the deciding vote in the Trade <br />Promotion Authority Bill on December 6, 2001. <br /> NOW THEREFORE BE IT ~ESOLVED by the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners that Congressman Robin Hayes be commended for his work on <br />behalf of the citizens, employers, and workers of the Cabarrus region, and <br />for his tireless efforts to retain and expand textile jobs within North <br />Carolina. <br /> Adopted this the 17~", day of December, 2001. <br /> <br /> /$/ Robert M. Bonds <br />Clerk to the Board <br /> <br />Requested Support of Federal Medioaid Relief to North Carolina - State and <br /> <br />Counties <br /> <br /> Federal Medicaid relief proposals are part of an economic stimulus <br />package currently under consideration by the United States Congress. The <br />North Carolina Association of County Commissioners has requested each County <br />to advise its congressional representatives as to how critical federal <br />Medicaid relief is to the counties in North Carolina. North Carolina is one <br />of eight states that mandates that counkies participate in Medicaid service <br />costs. <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Fennel, seconded by Vice Chairman Carruth <br />and unanimously carried, the Board agreed to send a letter to Congressman <br />Robin Hayes urging support and advocacy for the pending Medicaid relief <br />proposals currently being considered by Congress. <br /> <br />Settinq a Joint Meeting with the Economic Development Corporation <br /> <br /> Commissioner Fennel proposed a ~oint meeting with the Economic <br />Development Corporation (EDC) Board to continue discussions regarding such <br />issues as the current structure, funding and the future direction of SDC. <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Fennel, seconded by Commissioner ~rivette <br />and unanimously carried, the Board agreed to hold a work session with the <br />Economic Development Corporation Board at 6:30 p.m. on January 14, 2002, in <br />the Multipurpose Room at the Governmental Center. Officials from the <br />Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce will be invited to attend the meeting. <br /> <br />APPOINTMENTS TO BOARDS AND CO~ITTEES . <br /> <br />Cen=ralina Council of Governments - Delegat~ and Alternate Deleqate <br /> <br /> Vice Chairman Carruth,. current delegate to the Centralina Council of <br />Governments (COG) Board, reported that he is 'out of town much of the time <br />when the COG meetings are held. He stated Commissioner Privette, alternate <br />delegate, had agreed to serve as delegate. <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Vice Chairman Carruth,. seconded by Commissioner Fennel <br />and unanimously carried, the Board named Commissioner Privette as delegate <br />and Vice Chairman Carruth as alternate delegate to the Centralina Council of <br />Governments for 2002. <br /> <br />Tourism Authority <br /> <br /> The Board received the following names from the Tourism Authority for <br />consideration for appointments to Seats 7 and 8 on the Tourism Authority: <br />Steve Propst (reappointment), Diane Honeycutt, Palek Patel, and Sharon <br />Campbell.
