You may attach an <br />8 '/~ x 11 conceptual map of your project area to the application if you feel it would aid in your description. <br /> <br />APPLICANT Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Department <br />PROJECT TITLE North Cabarrus Park <br /> <br />TOTAL PROJECT COST <br /> <br />RTP GRANT AMOUNT REQUESTED <br /> <br />PROJECT DESCRIPTION <br /> <br />· $ 236,872.45 <br /> <br /> $ 5O,OOO.O0 <br /> (Maximum of 80% of the total projec[ costs up to $50,.000.00) <br /> <br /> North cabarrus Park is a 90-acre park leased to Cabarrus County by the City of Kannapolis and the Chumh of God <br /> Children's Home. Facilities currently include picnic shelters and group sites; volleyball, basketball and horseshoe courts; a <br /> restroom/vending building; and parking lots. ' <br /> This grant would provide funds to construct a fully accessible, 8' wide, crushed stone trail suitable for walkers/joggers <br />and non-motorized uses. One section of the trail follows the proposed greenway corridor established by the Livable <br />Community Blueprint for Cabarrus County (attached) and will connect the park on one end with Covenant Classical School (a <br />pdvate school with an enrollment of 150 in grades K - 12), a new housing development, a mobile home park, and two <br />apartment complexes. The other end of the corridor will connect with the proposed IriSh Buffalo Creek Greenway. Signage will <br />be placed at all entrances and exits indicating trail distance, points of interest (i.e. oldest tree in Cabarrus County, different <br />species of flora and fauna, etc.), and any specific safety instructions. Benches and trash receptacles will be placed along the <br />trail for the convenience of trail users. <br /> The Piedmont Adventure Club, a local outdoor activity group, has agreed to identify trees, plants, animal habitat, etc. <br />along the trail route as well as monitor the condition of the trail. <br /> According to the 1990 census figures, there are approximately 19,238 p(~ople within a 6-mile radius of North <br />Cabarrus Park. Of these, 17,414 were White, 1580 Black, 92 Asian, 117 Hispanic, and 35 other; and 1163 Were under the age <br />of 5, 3245 were between 5 & 17, 3498 between 18 & 29, and 11,332 were 30 and over.
