February 25, 20~2 Page 289 <br /> <br /> U~ON MOTION of Commissioner Suggs, seconded by Commissioner Fennel and <br />unanimously carried, the Board approved Change Order No. 006 to the contract <br />with Matthews Construction Company, Inc. to provide added support to allow <br />the construction of suites in the Arena at the F~po. <br /> <br /> Change Order No. 606 - To enlarge wall footings at perimeter <br /> foundations of Arena Building to resisit (sic) moment (sic) from <br /> reaction of Pre-Engineered main frame columns and to accommodate the <br /> added loading on columns due to proposed suites in Arena Building - <br /> $55,981.00 <br /> <br /> Mr. Clifton discussed the fire protection system at the Arena. A <br />sprinkler system over the top of the Arena, where the ceiling is 75 feet <br />above the floor, was included in the original construction contract after the <br />Concord Fire Marshal asked 'the State to reconsider its initial decision not <br />to require the sprinklers. A fire pump is now required since there is'not <br />enough pressure in the City's water system to service the sprinkler system <br />should it be activated. <br /> <br /> U~ON MOTION of Commissioner Suggs, seconded by Vice Chairman Carruth <br />with Commissioners Suggs,' Vice Chairman Carruth and Chairman Freeman voting <br />for and Commissioners Privette and Fennel voting against, the Board approved <br />the following change orders to the contract with Matthews Construction <br />Company, Inc. for the Expo project. <br /> <br /> Change Order NO. 020 - To add a diesel powered fire pump system'with' <br /> pre-finished enclosure per quote by Kannapolis Fire Control. The <br /> foundation and slab-on-grade are included. The diesel fire pump will <br /> not require connecting to or upgrading the emergency electric <br /> generator. Electrical installation and connection will be priced after <br /> the selection of the pump - $113,403.00 <br /> <br /> Change Order No. 025R - This change order results from the following: <br /> (1) Changing the orientation of the Exhibit Building resulting in <br /> increased lengths of service lines as well as increased depths for the <br /> sanitary sewer; (2) Providing for sewer lateral to connect with the <br /> plumbing from the sanitary sewer; (3) Changes to the fire protection <br /> system incorporating the added fire pump and fire system changes and <br /> deleting water and fire protection lines to the 'Maintenance Building~ <br /> area. Valves and stub-out will be provided for future line extension. <br /> The .installations of these systems are critical to th~ project <br /> schedule. - $65,227.00 <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Fennel, seconded by Commissioner Privette <br />and unanimously carried, the Board moved to seek recovery of funds for Change <br />Orders No. 020 and No. 025R (contract with Matthews Construction Company, <br />Inc. for the Expo project) from the City of Concord. <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Fennel, seconded by Vice Chairman Carruth <br />and unanimously carried, the Board approved Change Or~er No. 021 to .the <br />contract with Matthews Construction Company, Inc. for the Expo project. <br /> <br />Change Order No. 021 -. To add erosion control measures' for the <br />disturbed area leading to the future Maintenance Building area. <br />Measures are as detailed by Concord Engineering based on the site <br />inspection by NCDENR - $4,641.00. <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Suggs, seconded by Commissioner Privette <br />and unanimously carried, the Board approved Change Order No. 016 to the <br />construction contract with Matthews Construction Company, Inc. for-the. Expo <br />project. <br /> <br /> Change Order No. 016 - To furnish and install underfloor electrical <br /> raceway in the Livestock Building as .proposed on sheets Eh3.2 and <br /> Eh3.3. This proposal is based on the November 29, 2001 proposal by ~. <br /> F. Belk and Son. Placement of slab~on-grade cannot proceed until this <br /> request ks resolved. The seven-day extension is based on having an <br /> authorization to proceed bY Tuesday,.
